What's a good, active, intelligent, mefi-like site for discussing movies? I know about filmfilter.com, but sadly it doesn't seem that heavily used, and I must obey the Power Laws.

Not quite MeFi, but The Movie Blog is devoted to movies, and may be worth your while. And Sheila O'Malley devotes A LOT of space to discussing and analyzing movies, directors, actors, etc.

Maybe one of the screenwriting sites?

Try "Done Deal".

There will be lotsa noise and twittish posts, but there are also several industry people who peek in there.

Despite the unfortunate name, there is a fair share of wise folks at the Cinemarati Roundtable.

Metaphilm is good for sideways looks at popular and not-so-popular films.
