How can I get a good deal on a replacement for my wife's busted Pantech C3b AT&T cell phone?

On our recent vacation, the LCD screens on my wife's cell phone both shattered and the headset port no longer works. It seems like we passed through some kind of weird low pressure area because all of my electronic devices were temporarily affected. (Her's was permanently affected obviously.)

Anyway, how can I go about getting an inexpensive replacement phone?
  1. We still have about 7 months left on our contract, so we can't just upgrade the phone.
  2. I have an identical phone, so I'm willing to put her SIM card into my phone while I take a "less cute" (her words) phone for myself.
  3. We were told that the warranty does not cover physical damage to the phone.
Is buying an unlocked phone a viable option? Every time I think about it, my "you're about to get ripped off" sense tingles.

Does anyone have experience with replaceyourcell.com?

Should I just extend my contract and get a cheap-o phone?

I bought my last replacement phone on eBay. It worked out well for me.

Best answer: Get one from AT&T's Pay As You Go department, then swap sims.

Oh, and if you go through these people, you can get a $25 rebate too.

Response by poster: Thanks! I ordered the cheap-o refurbished $9.99 Nokia brick phone. Hopefully it'll work.

Response by poster: Just a quick update. The refurbished, cheap-o phone works like a champ. Thanks for the suggestions!
