Tips for launching & running an eBay store?

I know a local dirt track racer who mainly races sprint cars, and is very, very popular. The racing team is looking to seel merchandise-- t-shirts, hats, posters, beanie-baby-type stuffies, and the lile, and they'd really like to do so in an eBay store.

Now, I'm pretty familiarwith using eBay to sell things-- but mostly in one-off auctions or lots. Any advice from the collective for running a eBay store as a successful merchandising store?

Why do they want to use eBay specifically? What do they like about it as opposed to any of the other online store options that require less effort on the buyers' part?

They say because that's what they're familiar with-- they meaning both the prospective customers, and the team-- and they think it will be cheaper for them in the short term until they can get enough momentum going to do all he online store-hosting themselves.

Response by poster: Just got some more info from the team:

"'they are selling the racer's die cast car on Ebay and was thinking if we put up an official Ebay store and offer free autographs with the merchandise people would buy from us."
