Can I Has Camera and PC Play Nice Together?

Photo Software N00b Filter: Why do the pics I upload from my digital camera to my computer give me a hard time, sometimes?

Specifically, when I upload a batch of new photos onto my PC and then go in to name and re-size or play with exposure, I sometimes get the message that I don't have "permission" to save the photo. So basically, I do my re-sizing and name the shot, and then when I try to move on to the next one I get the error message. The photo in question will revert to its original state, and I have to do the re-sizing all over again. And then I do the exact same thing, and I can save it no problem.

I'm using a Canon Powershot and the basic Windows Vista photo software.

Best answer: I don't know the Windows Vista photo software. I would suggest using Google's Picasa. It is a free download, extremely stable and simple to use.

Seconding Picasa, it's great.

Best answer: If you're renaming the file, it could be that the software gets confused and tries to reload a filename that no longer exists? Hard to say without seeing it happen.

Anyway, I'll give a recommendation for an old favorite I use for photo editing: IrfanView (freeware).
