What's the best way for a non-driver to get from central/downtown Los Angeles to Ontario Airport on a Tuesday?

That's Ontario, California, in case there's any confusion.

Cost is a factor, time less so, although the Trip Planner at metro.net told me it would take 2 1/2 hours to get from my address to the airport using buses, and that's a BIT too long -- guess I'll reserve that for my worst-case scenario. Amtrak doesn't stop at its Ontario station on Tuesdays.

It's pricier than taking the bus, but taking metrolink from union station to E. Ontario station should get you there within a mile or two of the airport. Metrolinky

Might want to check out the shuttle services listed here. Google the name to find the website.

here's a vote against using shuttle services - especially super shuttle. they have been notoriously unreliable for me. if you can at all do take metrolink.

Well, I'd call my dad and ask him to come pick me up.

In your case, though, I second the Metrolink option to the East Ontario station on the Riverside Line. The station is on the south side of the airport and there's a bunch of bus lines that service the station. Even a cab up and around would work well.
