help me manage my contacts

I accidentally synced my mac's contacts with gmail, and added 4000 unwanted contacts. I manually stripped them out, turned off gmail syncing, and now I get an "unknown error" from itunes when syncing with my iphone, and a "syncing contacts will add 4000 (or so) contacts" message ... even though those people weren't showing up in my contacts app.

Post-sync, those people are back in my contacts app, after I spent an hour cleaning it up and deleting them ... and they're on my iphone too, even though I got the error message.

How do I just nuke all contacts from my iphone and start fresh?

I'm getting that unknown error too, is it error #13014? I'm suspecting its the new iTunes.

Response by poster: Yeah, same one, and only since I upgraded. Woooonderful.

I spent 15 minutes deleting all my gmail contacts, but even though I have "sync with gmail" turned off, it just repopulated them all. I had no idea it could go from mac contacts -> gmail, jeesh.

Just so you know, that error is fixed with a reboot of both devices.
