B&M Asus sellers?

Where can I find an Asus eee pc tonight?

I'm leaving on an extended business trip overseas in a day and I just decided to bring a laptop. I'm sold on the Asus eee pc, but I can't find one at any B&M stores in town.

Reluctantly, I will also ask for recommendations for other linux-compatible UMPC's, as long as I can find them stat.

Any local PC shop should have an eee or two in stock. If they don't, any chance you can pick one up when you arrive wherever it is you're going?

Where are you?
If you are in NYC I see them in the windows in the electronic stores near 42nd street.

Your location is critical to the success of this question.

Response by poster: I'm sure I put in the question that I'm in Austin, TX.

No clue why I deleted that...

CompUSA has them in stock. Unfortunately, they closed the CompUSA in Austin a while back.

The closest CompUSA to you is in Plano (by Dallas). Not sure you want to make the 2 hour drive.

Might be a CompUSA close to your destination, tho.

Best answer: I just checked... Best Buy in Waco has the Asus Eee PC in stock, but it's the 16GB SSD, 1 GB RAM, WindowsXP Home version. You COULD install Ubuntu Netbook Remix as soon as you got it, tho.

Here's the link.

Make sure when checking the store availability, to put the Waco. No Best Buy in Austin has it in stock. You could buy now, and pick up in store.

Waco is only about 45 minutes to an hour north of you on I-35.

Response by poster: Oh wow, I didn't realize bestbuy.com would tell you per-store availability. That might have saved some driving.

Fry's has an HP and an Acer. I'm going to check those out, then drive to Waco.

I think we can close this up...
