Flag with a red eight-pointed star on a green field: what is it?

MovieTriviaFilter: I'm trying to identify this flag, as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

In one of the big action scenes, about an hour and a half into the movie, several of these flags are flying on a German tank. I'm curious to know what entity the flag represents.

It's a large, red, eight-pointed star with a white border, on an emerald green field. I tried flagid.org, but it was no help.

The scene in question occurs in the short-lived Republic of Hatay, but it's not their flag. (I didn't expect it to be, but I figured it was worth a shot.)

Any hints? Perhaps the banner of a specific German division? Maybe just a stylistic touch with no real-world origins? I don't know why I want to know this, but I do!

Best answer: It is supposedly the flag of Hatay of 1938/39 - the germans borrow the tank from the Sultan of Hatay (where the canyon of the crescent moon is) in return for the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Note, the flag itself is fictional, as is the Sultan of Hatay.
