Swamp, cannon, log computer game with a prize

A friend is trying to remember an old computer game...

All he can remember is that:

- it came on a cassette tape;
- you had to get across a swamp at some stage;
- you had to make a cannon out of a hollow log and a rock; and
- there was supposed to be an international phone number at the end - if you rang it early enough, you'd win a large cash prize, perhaps as much as $10,000.

Response by poster: That's him. Re: the platform - he can't remember conversations we had two days ago, but I'll see if I can wring it out of him. Hmmm - he's been looking for a while, hasn't he ;)

I remember playing some game, probably from a cassette on my old Atari. It had a swamp and if you weren't careful you got chiggers......

I also remember a hollow log, but I don't remember using it to make a cannon?

Chiggers?!? Hell, that sounds like Scott Adams' Adventureland (here's a playable java version)! IIRC, you had to put mud on yourself to prevent the chiggers from biting. Unfortunately, this text adventure had no prize at the end...unless you count bragging rights for finishing it, but I was playing this thing on a VIC-20, a piece of hardware that didn't often end up in the same sentence as the word "bragging."
