IAH outdoor hangouts?

I have a several hour layover in Houston (IAH) and would like to go outside and take off my mask. I don't mind going through security again. I'm aware it can be really hot, I don't mind the heat as long as I'm in full shade. Where should I go within reasonable walking distance from the terminals? [more inside]

Where can I park near Chinatown in Houston?

I planned a dumplings date in Chinatown (9900 Bellaire), this Saturday at noon. I bet it's going to be nuts. Coming from Medical Center / Midtown, should we park my car somewhere nearby and take a lyft for the last mile? Where should we park?

Hikes and/or natural beauty within 100 miles of Houston

I have some free time in Houston coming up and I’d like to spend it making day trips to the great outdoors. Closer to Houston is better but anywhere out to a 100 mile radius would be fine. Any suggestions?

Help me maximize our experience visiting Space Center Houston

What should I do to maximize a mid-October visit to Space Center Houston? We will be staying at a nearby hotel and using uber. I have tickets for the Level 9 VIP Tour, which includes Space Center Admission for the next day. We are interested in seeing any iconic displays, Saturn V, mission control, space shuttle, Gemini/Apollo capsules, etc, and have no interest in gimmicky ones like Galaxy Lights. The more detailed and adult-oriented space, science, and engineering content the better. [more inside]

How to spend 10 hours in Houston burdened with luggage

Due to flight cancellation, my wife and I must exit our Houston Airbnb at 11 AM this Friday but our flight doesn’t leave until 11 PM. We have no car, but have two rolling luggage bags to deal with. Can’t leave bags at Airbnb. Can we check bags anywhere anymore, or what can we do with bags in tow that isn’t a huge hassle? Please save us from 10 hours waiting at the airport.

Can I live without a car in Houston? Relocating from Boston

My partner has received a very good job offer in Houston, and we are considering relocating. We currently live in the Boston area and live, work, and shop within a 3-mile radius of our apartment. We walk, bike, and take public transit everywhere we go. This is all very easy to do in Boston. Is it at all possible to live a similar existence in Houston? [more inside]

How to tourist form Pearland TX with a baby (i.e. car seat!)

I'm going to Pearland TX to visit a family member. I'd like to do a small amount of touristing, specifically to tour NASA (anything else you suggest?). But how do I do that given that there's no public transit in Pearland and I would need a car seat for the baby? Note: I'm unwilling to get in a car with a baby without a car seat, even if the law makes exceptions for cabs or whatever. The laws of physics make no exceptions.

Tight layover for elderly parents in Houston - assistance?

My elderly parents have a tight layover coming up between flights on United in Houston. I expect they will have to change terminals (second flight is international). They both walk okay but Mom in particular is not speedy. United's page on senior/disabled assistance is vague. Does anybody have experience with requesting golf cart type and/or wheelchair assistance a) from United b) at IAH c) both? The layover is 1:20, I'm thinking fine if the first flight is on time and not so fine if it isn't.

The sub-$500 Folding Electric Bike

My mission, if I choose to accept it (which I do, otherwise this post would be pointless): Build a transportation system that can ride on bike trails, tow a 60 lb kayak while walking/carrying a dog, and fold up small enough to fit on the kayak for the paddle home. Also, less than $500. [more inside]

Lunar New Year (and more) in Houston!

I'm taking a trip to Houston this weekend, and as it's Lunar New Year, I'm quite interested to see if the good people of AskMe know of any cool stuff happening in relation to that this weekend. I found this event, but I'm hoping to be pointed to more! Also, I'm interested in any can't-miss sights/eats/events as well!

Short-to-medium term transportation options in Houston?

Asking for a friend: I'm leaving graduate school for a job in Houston, TX in a few weeks and I'm looking for the best short-term transportation situation - apparently there is no public transportation whatsoever going to my job, and I'd like to be able to, you know, get to work. The hitch is that while I'm leaving in 2 weeks, my wife is leaving in 3 months, and she needs our car to get to work. I've got a motorcycle, but it's cheapest to ship that in the moving truck when we move our stuff in 3 months (not to mention I'm not sure how quickly I can arrange for it to be moved out there, and if it gets there too late, it's not worth doing anyway).
