Tucson at Christmas with the family dog

My wife, two teen daughters and our dog are escaping Seattle this Christmas to (hopefully) enjoy some sunshine and short sleeve weather. We enjoy walking neighborhoods and hiking and hope to spend lots of time outside. I know the National Parks restrict dogs on trails- where can we go where Fido won’t be a problem? [more inside]

Looking for recommendations of must see things we could fit into a relaxed day off whithout consuming all day driving. [more inside]

Yuma short term housing

My daughter's going to be in Yuma AZ for a physicians assistant clinical rotation in January 2018 for five weeks, then will return there in mid-March for a second five-week rotation in women's health. Her husband, a native of Ecuador, will be with her. They both are fluent Spanish-speakers. We're brainstorming about housing options, from renting an unused vacation trailer to WWOOFing (he'd do the work part). Help us think about what might be possible, and what might make sense in that context.

Off the beaten path Arizona with an Aussie

What are your Arizona road trip can't miss spots, eats, attractions? Meeting up later this week with a friend from Oz for a weekish road trip - flying into PHX, then driving to: Holbrook (yes, we are sleeping in a wigwam), Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, back to PHX via Sedona, a couple days in Tucson and then back to PHX for departure. Not a lot of time in any one place sadly. Anything I shouldn't miss? Crazy difficult hikes are out, but gentle ones would be ok. Thanks for any amazing tips!

Day trip from (and tips for) Phoenix during NCAA championship weekend?

Mr. Darling's dad won tickets to the NCAA football championship game in a charity auction last spring, so the three Darling men (FIL, husband and 15 y.o. son) will be travelling there Jan. 9-12. This will be son's first trip out west, so we'd love for him to see more than the hotel lobby. [more inside]
