My girlfriend and I like to have a non-traditional Christmas meal. This year we're going to be in Dubai and we'd like to go for hot wings, curly fries, jalapeƱo poppers and deep fried x. I've already located a TGI Fridays and a Hard Rock Cafe, but I'm wondering if Mefites can recommend somewhere else I ought to look at.

How bad is traffic in Dubai on Sundays in the afternoon/evening? My wife and I have 24 hours in Dubai, beginning on a Sunday. We arrive to our hotel (right next to the airport) around 5:15PM, and we're taking the Bateaux dinner cruise leaving at 8:30PM. My plan between these two times is to take her to the Royal Mirage down by Jumeira for drinks. Online, it's looking like a taxi will take roughly 40 minutes to cover the distance from the airport to Jumeira, assuming no traffic. But on a Sunday (which is a work day in Dubai, as I understand it?), I'm worried: will the roads be totally clogged at that time of day? Or will a taxi be able to get us there in a reasonable amount of time?

Suggest me things to do when arriving in Dubai Airport at midnight for 9 hours please! I'll be taking a 7-hours flight from Glasgow to Dubai, arriving at almost 1 am. This is followed by another 7-hours flight from Dubai to Singapore at 9:30 am. What should I do to pass the time? Should I even try to leave the airport and go to the city? [more inside]

Does the hivemind have any up-to-date recommendations for a good hotel in Dubai for a three-day tourist/relaxation visit? Price range would ideally be sub-$200/night, but we're still aiming for some multiple-star luxury.

Where to go from Dubai? I'm going to Dubai in April with my Executive MBA program. I've read great posts on Dubai, but what would be the best place to go after for 4-5 days without breaking the bank. Sri Lanka? Cairo? I love history and sightseeing and likely won't get another opportunity for extensive global travel for some time. Basically, what's the best use of our time in this part of the world? Flying directly from Houston, so connecting cities are out.
