Last minute Mexico City trip recommendations

We are doing an impulsive, last minute, no research trip to Mexico City, TONIGHT until Tuesday. We like art and music, we like everything from street food up to fine dining, we like architecture and history. We are staying in downtown. Only one of us speaks Spanish. Please blast me with any must-dos!

Mexico City

I'm going to Mexico City in three weeks. Obviously there is a ton of things to do. We are going to do obvious stuff, eg Frida Kahlo's place, Tenochtitlan, Xochimilco. What are some non-obvious things my wife and I should do/look out for? Food, crazy shit, art, really suggestions of any sort are welcome!

Offbeat things to do in Mexico City?

I'm going to Mexico City for a week mid-month, staying in a friend's apartment in Del Carmen. I'm trying to plan a loose itinerary of one thing per day, a mix of must-sees and more offbeat stuff. I'm looking for things to add to the latter category, either in the city or within day-trip distance--music, food, culture, etc. A lucha libre show is one possibility--what about some others? I speak Spanish and I'm comfortable poking around and using public transportation on my own.

Frida Kahlo Museum - photography permit?

Will be heading to CDMX next week and have reservations at many of the main attractions, including advanced tickets at the Frida Kahlo Museum. I read in a couple of spots that you have to have a permit to take photos? Does that include all photos? Or just photos with a camera that is not a phone? And if that is the case (I have an actual camera that I will want to take pictures with), how do I get a permit in advance?

Solo Travel in Mexico City

I'm a woman traveling solo to Mexico next month, and am debating whether I want to stop for ~5 days in Mexico City. Do you think it will be safe and reasonably carefree? Any recommendations on where to stay or where to go (and where not to)? I am an experienced traveler, but I do not speak Spanish and have never been to Mexico before. [more inside]

Any travel tips for Mexico City?

I'll be traveling by myself to Mexico City in June, staying there 4 nights and 3 days. I've never been there before but have traveled alone for a similar length of time in Spain and Italy. I'm working on learning Spanish and looking for some advice on what to do/see and how to get there. [more inside]

Off to Mexico City! What's cool?

Hola!, The wife and I are off to Mexico city during the week of July 4th. We've got reservations at Pujol and... not much else! We're fairly adventurous travelers and while my Spanish ends at 'Si', hers is close to fluent. We like to eat, are big frequenters of Atlas Obscura and don't mind a little discomfort if it leads to adventure. What's the coolest stuff in Mexico City? (And, perhaps, what should we look out for?)

Any American Expat bars to watch the election in Mexico City?

Hello, I will be in Mexico City next week and I’m trying to find an American expat bar that will be showing the coverage of the election. I’d prefer a place skewed towards younger people if possible. I got to watch the last election in an expat bar in Buenos Aires and it was quite an event. If anybody can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Mexico City and beyond with children?

My family is traveling to Mexico City in August for a 10 day vacation. It will be myself, my wife, and our three boys - ages 5 years, 3 years and 8 months. We're planning to spend four days in Mexico City, two near Teotihuacan, and the rest is to be determined. What are your recommendations? Is there another side trip after Teotihuacan we should consider spending 2-3 days at before flying home? [more inside]

Short trip to Mexico City, ideas welcome!

Yay! I have a short (4 days) visit coming up to Mexico city, leaving next week. I've got one day marked for Teotihuacan and another day for the National Museum of Anthropology and other museums in that area. That leaves two days with little to no plans, any mefites with experience in the DF who could share their must do's? Also, I am staying in Zona Rosa, planning on using the metro as much as possible for transport.

Visiting Mexico City as a queer mixed-race couple?

For my 30th birthday, I'm planning a week-long trip to Mexico City with my partner. We both have some concerns about physical/emotional safety, especially for her as a trans WOC. I'm looking for advice and anecdotes from people with experience being brown (as a tourist/non-native) and/or queer in Mexico City. [more inside]
