I’m spending 5 nights at a hostel in Katsushika City, in Tokyo! I’ve read that this area is really quaint and quiet, with lots of temples and such, and not very much nightlife. Does anybody have some good recommendations for bars or restaurants I should go to that are somewhat close via the train? All the places I wanna go to are an hour away, so I’m gonna find a night to go to a few of them. In the mean time, what can I do at night around Katsushika?

I will have one day in Tokyo during the week next week and what I'd most like to do is go to a nice onsen to refresh myself after the long plan ride. Then I want to eat some delicious mochi and wander around someplace interesting. I will arrive at Ueno station from Narita in the morning and need to be back to Ueno in the late afternoon. Our family will be in Tokyo during the first week of February, and we thought this might be a good time for the kids (ages 7 and 2) to see snow for the first time. If we hopped on a train in Tokyo in the morning, is there a good place we could hop off and--without too much additional transportation--end up somewhere where we could slide down a hill on something, toss a few snowballs, and make a snowperson? I'm travelling from the UK to Japan in November, and have just realised that the mains supply stuff we are taking with us (phone/tablet charger with USB cable, camera battery charger for a Canon dslR) will require voltage conversion, not just an adaptor plug. This confuses me a little bit. Are there any recommended converters I should be looking at that will easily pack into luggage, or should I be looking at getting a Japanese usb charger/camera battery charger off of eBay before we go?
