Reykjavik, Iceland for 24 hours

I'm going to London in early February for work and thinking of taking advantage of the fact that Icelandair doesn't charge extra for stopovers in Reykjavik. Would this be worth doing in early February for 24 hours on a pretty small budget, and on a Sunday? [more inside]

How to spend National Day in Iceland?

We (2 adults, 2 kids) will be in Iceland over National Day (June 17th). Before we found out that we would be there for National Day, we had planned on leaving Reykjavik to drive the Ring Road on the 17th. Now that we know about National Day, should we stay in Reykjavik one more day to experience National Day there? Or is National Day better experienced in a smaller town? We are open to anything, but just want to really experience Iceland.

1 woman + 1 island + 10 days = 1 bag?

Hello, efficient international travelers! I'll be in Reykjavik for 10 days this July and am hoping to do carry-on only (from the US). Given the changeable temps and varied activities I have planned (whale watching, guided horseback riding, museum visits and shopping, light hikes in the Golden Circle and dancing as much as I can) this should be do-able, right? I don't mind washing things in the sink at night or re-wearing jackets, etc., but do you have packing tips or experience to share? Oh and if I can add an addendum in - do people still use Traveler's Checks? Last time I was abroad they were very helpful in setting a daily cash budget but that was more than a few years ago. TIA!

Recommendations for non-group non-driver Iceland stuff to do

Mr LyzzyBee and I will be honeymooning in Iceland, probably in June, as we found out that the buses don't run until then. We will be there for a week to 10 days. Special snowflake details: (1) We don't drive, so we won't be hiring a car. Much information assumes we are doing that. (2) We are on our honeymoon, so we don't want to go on a week-long trip with other people! [more inside]

10 Hour Layover in Reykjavik - Enough time for downtown and Blue Lagoon?

Prepaid (micro-)SIM cards (with data) for Iceland

I'm going to Iceland for a few days soon, and am looking for a prepaid local SIM card to put in my iPhone 4S. It has to be a micro-SIM (though they can be cut down to that size) and to have a data allowance (I'll only be there for a few days so it doesn't need to be huge; I intend to use it for basic things like ). (It staying alive after I go back to the UK would be a nice feature, as I'll be back in Iceland again.) Is there a local mobile phone company who have a recommended prepaid SIM-only package, and if so, where in Reykjavík could I pick one up?

Heading to Iceland with an infant

My wife and I are thinking of heading to Iceland for our summer vacation. This year will be a little different as we will be traveling with our 14month old. Since are on the East Coast the flight to Iceland is reasonably quick and Iceland is quicker than some domestic locations We hope to rent a house in the south eastern part of Iceland in late May or early June. We will use the house as our base and do some small day trips from there. Our only goal for the vacation is to enjoy the scenery and see a few things. We are going to travel light and purchase most food and diapers there. Any hints, tips, and tricks traveling to Iceland with an infant. What can we expect in terms of availability of conventional baby foods and diapers? Anything else we should know?

Visiting Iceland in October

I've always wanted to see the Northern Lights, so my boyfriend and I booked a package through IcelandAir for the end of October*. We're spending two nights Reykjavik and two Akureyri. What might we need to know or want to do that a guide book might not mention? With what seems like so much to see in a short amount of time, what's not to be missed? [more inside]
