I'll have a spare day in Quito, Ecuador to explore, with no real plans. I've read the basic tourist articles, but always appreciate guidance from people who know the city better. In particular, a good but casual and ideally not super touristy recommendation for lunch or dinner would be great, but I'd love all the tips. [more inside]

My son is applying to a Junior Semester Abroad program in Ecuador for next fall semester. I am reading that Quito has become more dangerous than it was when we went there on a family vacation 6 years ago, and I am nervous for his safety. I'm looking for first-hand information and advice about how to stay as safe as possible. [more inside]

Nightlife recommendations in Quito outside of Mariscal Sucre. Travelling with my sister and our significant others in Ecuador and Galapagos for a few weeks in June.
