How to make tiny books?

I'd like to self-publish some really short stories similar to the ones on my site. I like this paper trick and am wondering if anyone knows of any others. My printer does double sided so it would be neat to exploit that, but it's not mandatory. Got any links? Also, I don't want to limit to one-page tricks so any suggestions for self-publishing that aren't full-on books (like Lulu or NMK) are appreciated. (Nothing against Lulu or No Media Kings, of course--just not looking to publish anything longer than a few pages at most).

name this little mag from the early 80's

1980ish - western massachusetts I had a newsprint publication abot 50 - 80 pages with a bunch of single page indy comics in it. what the heck was it called? I was 10 or 12. I probably picked it up for free in northhampton ma. I recall it had alot of R. Crumb 'style' b/w short comics. various artists. I'm also assuming it was somewhat political but it all went over my head. My parents may have eventually thrown it out when they finally looked inside. Possibly had some essays or writing but I know there were ALOT of comics (that's why I loved it so).

It was on newsprint like a local 'shoppers guide' type rag.

I mention mass because it may have been a regional compilation but could have also had a wider circulation than I was aware of. may have been a one time deal or a monthly or quarterly publication but I only ever had that one issue.

I know I barely understood most of it but it fascinated me. last night it popped into my head and now I can't stop thinking about it.

What the heck was it called?

How to write a zine

I feel like my skull is going to rupture if I don't do something, so I've decided to try to create a 'zine. You know, the Kinko's-made, double-stapled things that have almost died since our beloved internet. Any advice? I've searched around, but found most information about zine creation highly personal. And speaking of personal, I'm thinking of doing a personal journal zine a la Al Burian's fantastic "Burn Collector," but I'm really unsure if I have an interesting enough life. In short, how can I tell if anyone would want to read anything that I write? What do you people look for, or would look for, in a zine?

Which Cometbus is this?

I've only owned two issues of the zine Cometbus, and I've lost one of them. Help me figure out which issue I am thinking of so I can reacquire it. This issue was a collection of short stories about life in California, and possibly Chicago. Here's what I remember:

--- A story about every roommate he ever had, with their names abbreviated by the first letter.

--- A story about failing to meet up with an old friend at a restaurant, and meeting a cool girl instead. (Ending line was close to "I still didn't know if she was a blessing or a curse")

--- A story about how he and a roommate spoke exclusively in a metalanguage (He: "Long rambling story about the people who I hate at work." Roommate: "Feigned interest while ignoring most of the relevant details.") which eventually broke down when one of them couldn't get the other one to realize that their apartment was on fire.

--- A story with a line kinda close to "Any place that won't be different when you leave is a place that's not worth staying."

--- A story about a trust-fund kid who worked with the author at a pizza place.

That's all I remember. Help me out.

ChicagoFilter: I'm looking for small presses in Chicago - the type that churn out lots of creative zines, etc. I LIVE here, but I'm having trouble finding where to go to get a good list going. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Question number 4168

Some times I think I was born too late because I find myself drooling over things like the Mondo2000 guide to the future, Semiotext[e], Loompanics, or the Church of Subgenius books. Are there any books or zines that would appeal to a fan of these works?
