I'd like to add
captions to my YouTube videos and preferably not do it by hand. YouTube recommends
this software but I have a Mac. Is there something free or cheap I can use? Any other tips? Thanks.

Lets say I'm watching a video on YouTube and I pause it at a part that I think would make a good picture, a good still shot (e.g. it's a video of my son singing and at one point he smiles beautifully and I want a picture of him smiling). Is there a way to make a copy of that still shot and post it on a website?

Some YouTube videos download *painfully* slow (5-12kb/s) while others will stream just fine near 200kb/s. I've had friends try and watch the videos that are trouble for me, and they work for them. Can anybody else confirm these problems? Is there a certain YouTube server that Verizon is throttling in Philadelphia, or is it just a routing problem?

who is the singer or band? I remember seeing a music video on youtube about 8 months ago? in it the female singer is singing while riding a bike the whole time. Behind her, kids on freestyle bikes come out of the woodwork and are doing trick throughout the video.
The song was good. something like modest mouse meets regina spektor on a bike... help me.

Why has Youtube started plaing in Flash?
I am on a dialup, so if there is anything I want to see, I know it is a matter of clicking, minimizing, and waiting a half hour to hit view again.
This morning, it started playing in flash mode, the little circle of dots going round, and even if I let it load all the way and hit watch again, its starts loading again.
My computer?, or just changes at YT?

Firefox fails me. I can't figure out why I can hear audio on YouTube, but not see the videos. I just get a big white, empty space where the video should be. What gives? It looks like Flash is installed. Do I need something else?

Help me find longer lectures on Youtube. Is there a browsable index of what's on posted on Youtube (something more detailed and descriptive than the left sidebar on the homepage, the channels page, or the few video links that show up on any given page)? I'd like to find something to watch on my ipod at the gym, something to hold my interest for fifteen to sixty minutes, but not videos of laughing babies, music videos or teenagers beating up each other. Doing a search for "university lectures" leads me to the several UC Berkeley lecture series and the inspiring lecture from the fellow with pancreatic cancer. Is it possible to move beyond that into other college lectures or even multipart courses (arts or science), discussions, longer films, the unexpected? How do I find them?

Has anyone used the
Multi-Video Upload Tool to upload their video to YouTube? It's been over 24 hours since I uploaded a 200mb video and it has yet to show up in
My Videos. On the upload tool it mentions "It may take 30 minutes or more for extremely large files to appear on your My Videos page." While 200mb Is big, I didn't think quite counted as "extremely large" considering they allow videos up to 1gb now. And of course any and all emails to YouTube have gone unanswered, which I hear is the common response to tech support questions. When I uploaded the same video to Google Videos it went online almost instantly. So, how have other people's experience with the Multi-Upload Tool fared?

I'd like a Flash video player of my video podcast on the web site, and a high-quality (960x540 should work) video file in the podcast feed.
I'm currently using
WordPress and
PodPress to manage the feed and video. But I can see why some people who don't want to install QuickTime might not be able to see the show.

I set my Dad up with an old computer of mine. At the default Flash quality (High), this computer renders YouTube clips at about 1 frame/sec. When he manually switches the quality to Low, they are fine; but he has to do this manually every time. Is there a way to make
all Flash animations default to Low quality?
