I've been working on a computer game for a while. Apparently, a whole lot of people use YouTube videos as the primary means to find out about games. This is utterly alien to me, so I could really use some advice. [more inside]
Now that SPOI's Youtube Options has gone subscription-only, what options are there for downloading Youtube videos in Chrome or Firefox? Userscripts.org seems to have finally bitten the dust, and the scripts it had were out of date.
Ok, I'm blowing my question on this because I can't find it and I need to watch it right now. There's a YouTube video of courier typewriter text and voice-over which talks about "A fucked up situation" that the author is recalling. If the title doesn't indicate enough of the video to you, spoilers below the fold to help you find it... because I can't find it. [more inside]
A friend of mine is starting a research project on dance videos (which certainly doesn't mean just ones created by professionals - so e.g. Saudi penguin dances are just as interesting as Gangnam Style) that have gone viral on Youtube or other online platforms. Many examples may comprise of both professional and amateur creation e.g. Happy . The key thing is that dance is the *main* reason for the viral spread. What are the most interesting and influential (or otherwise noteworthy!) examples of this in your experience? Thanks for your suggestions!!
I've recently become very interested in people who record themselves playing video games and then edit and post the videos to YouTube. It's clear that some people are supporting themselves this way. What are the economics of this? Where does the money come from? How much is it? How many followers are necessary to make a living this way? Etc.
I would like to cobble together a client side script that will display YouTube links more or less like MetaFilter does - as a text link with a small "play" icon after it. Click the words you go to YouTube, click the 'play' thingus and you get an overlay. [more inside]
I find a good Let's Play to be soothing and engaging. I like Minecraft best, but am willing to consider other games that have a similar vibe. I am interested in finding good videos that are relatively mature and fun. I would also consider good tutorial series. Currently I have been watching stuff put out by Paul Soares Jr, and I like it. I have not enjoyed anything by stampylongnose because it is too frantic and clownish. I have not found my way into Far Lands or Bust, but am willing to give it a try. Basically I like watching someone go about their business and talk about whatever while they do it. Do you have recommendations? Can you say what you like about your recommended titles?
Recently uploaded a new video to our YouTube channel. It appears in the "videos" tab but not the home page. How can I move it over?? [more inside]
What are the best live guitar videos on youtube I should know about but probably don't? [more inside]
For a while, I've searched for a quirky way to handle delivery of my files online - basically one video file, between 30 - 250 MB, gets uploaded to YouTube for client preview, and to Hightail (formerly YouSendIt) for delivery to put on air. I'd love a simpler, or more automated way, to handle this process on my Mac. [more inside]
Hi folks, I have a video uploaded on Youtube that I'd like to add an annotation to - a link to a Google Map that I created. But for some reason Youtube only allows links to a few select destinations (e.g. another video, a personal webpage). Is there anyway I can get around this?
After turning on Google 2-step verification, I am having trouble signing into YouTube on my Sony Blu-ray player. Any work-around? It seems like the Sony app makes no accommodation for 2-step verification.
My useless dog Truman seems to really enjoy watching a certain type of scene on TV. We've been stuck inside all winter and I know he'd rather be running around in big grassy fields. Please help me find some youtube videos for him to enjoy! [more inside]
I know there are songs I want on these playlists that I'm not remembering, and I'm constantly aware that I have blind spots that may be robbing me of perfect songs. Can you help me attack either issue by looking over one or both playlists then suggesting songs to add? [more inside]
My toddler son is finally of an age where the iPad and youtube are beginning to be a big draw. This is great, but I'd like to have some good guidelines from the start that allow him some screentime but prevent it from taking over too much of his life. I'm looking for a sense of what others have found works and doesn't work for them. [more inside]
Can anyone point me in the direction of something that works? [more inside]
I'm looking for people who are regularly posting interesting/unusual content about Minecraft. Examples would be unusual Let's Play type series like the Far Lands or Bust series that recently got written up in the New Yorker. Written content or public servers where more interesting than usual activities are going on also work. [more inside]
I want to get into video making and was wondering where people get their music from. I've noticed that some YouTube partners go to SoundCloud to pick up remixes of licensed songs to get past the copyright infringement--is that okay? [more inside]
Does anyone know from what movie is this youtube clip? [more inside]
Video and audio of online videos (YouTube, Hulu, etc.) stutter quite often when I play them. My laptop is not old by any means and it's been recently formatted. I've updated all the drivers and tried using both the default and HTML 5 Beta players on YouTube; no difference. Seems to be worst in Chrome. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
thisyoutube trailer, along with a few other trailers i've found, cause my computer screen to go black (but the computer stays on). Today it happened for the first time while i wasn't viewing youtube videos, I was playing poker online, had chrome open in background, and was watching a movie on VLC (I had been watching the movie for more than an hour when the screen went black). Running windows 7 (maybe my graphics card is overheating)? If I restart, the boot sequence is visibile, and "windows is starting" is shown, but then it goes black. After about 3 or 4 tries though, it will boot up normal, with a working screen.
In the transfer of Youtube to Google, my unlisted videos have vanished. Is there a way to get them back? [more inside]
Hi Metafilter! Can you ID the song used as background music in this video for me? I was unsuccessful at Googling it based on the (Spanish?) lyrics. The only phrases I can clearly make out are "esta no voy a perder" and the oft-repeated "Oye!"
I'm looking for a specific YouTube video, involved in a Fair-Use copyright case, that had been taken down and some months later allowed to reposted after having been approved by courts as transformative. It involved using two different movie-industry film footage segments that, when interspersed with each other, created a new conversation between two characters of different fictional universes. [more inside]
What are the simplest requirements -- in terms of both technology (camera/software/etc.) and lighting/clothing/makeup/background setting/etc. -- to make a reasonably good-looking Youtube video that will feature just one speaker talking. Are iMovie and an iSight camera inadequate?
I like streaming long videos on YouTube that are soothing in some way. Can you recommend some more things I might like? Specifics within. [more inside]
For some reason, the version of Chrome installed on my home laptop won't load YouTube's stylesheet on YouTube (or indeed show embedded videos on other pages), resulting in a page that looks like this: http://imgur.com/i6UiqpV Any suggestions on how to fix this? [more inside]
My sister's birthday is coming up and I want to ask her friends and other family to send me short videos of them saying happy birthday or whatever for me to compile into one full video to present to her on her birthday. What is the EASIEST way to go about this that a techophobe can handle? [more inside]
I had 2 versions of the Apple Think Different ad in a playlist from a few months ago. I went to watch them recently and the pages say "This video contains content from FOX, who has blocked it on copyright grounds." What claim does FOX have to take these down? How can I find out more about the takedown notice. [more inside]
I regularly want to make videos for YouTube consisting of a single still album art image + audio track. I use OS X. I'm still looking for the best solution for this seemingly trivial task. [more inside]
I would like to ask a particular YouTube lecture video creator to enable their videos to play back in HTML5, so I can use the variable speed toggle. Currently, all the videos in this channel are flash only. I'd like to include specific instructions in my email, so that if he wants to do this, he doesn't have to go hunting to find out how. But all the instructions I can find are on how a viewer can view videos that already have HTML5 enabled, not how to enable it in the first place. How can one change previously published flash videos on YouTube so they will play back in HTML5?
You can learn piano, guitar, and even the ocarina on YouTube. So, are there any good violin lessons out there? I'm looking for anything, but especially beginner violin (from, this is how you hold the bow to "caring for your violin" type videos.) [more inside]
I discovered ASMR on Metafilter and now am a devoted fan. What equipment and techniques would I need to make silent unboxing videos like this one? Talk to me like I'm a five year old. I know nothing about video and sound recording.
I'm looking for tv optimised web pages for streaming and similar like the YouTube TV browser or the BBC iPlayer's Big Screen. [more inside]
The Internet! Full of fun, narrated explainer videos that usually involve some kind of simple 2D animation (sometimes hand-drawn, sometimes cobbled together from other images) with a voice-over. But how are people making them? If Flash is in terminal decline, as I keep hearing, what are the most popular software tools for piecing together 2D online animation?
I want to use a Google Hangout "On Air" for a project, but a tiny limitation is getting in the way. I would like to bypass the 'Press to Talk' functionality with a tiny browser script/hack/modification. My programming knowledge is tiny, but I am sure this could be done super super simply with a script loaded in the browser. Perhaps there's better solution. Any ideas? [more inside]
I am about to launch a project that I think will get a lot of attention. I have personal/business social media accounts already, but do I need a second set of social media accounts just for this project to keep my personal/business ones from getting cluttered?
Why does each YouTube video have a special 'Share this video' link, at the http://youtu.be/ domain? Is there a meaningful difference between using the link provided and just copying the URL from the address bar? [more inside]
I am making a video composed of still photos that I'm finding on the internet. I want to put the final video on YouTube, so I'm converting them into 16:9 aspect ratio because I've been told that that's what YouTube needs in order to fill the whole screen with no black bars. But the video still has vertical borders! [more inside]
I would like to watch the official live Youtube stream for the America's Cup races this afternoon. These live streams are blocked in the US. I believe this will be the stream for today's racing. [more inside]
For the last few days, I've had trouble getting YouTube videos to play in my browser of choice, Firefox. Not even advertisements will load and I suddenly get the error message: "An error occured, please try again later." However, the video works perfectly in Chrome. [more inside]
I'm looking for a comedy short about pumpkin spice obsession. Pretty sure I saw it on Youtube, last fall or the fall before. [more inside]
Sometime ago I saw a YouTube video . We are at a poetry festival, from memory in New York state somewhere. A man comes on stage (late thirties, caucasian) - pretty sure he is a poet but what he has to say is prose. He gives an amusing address lasting two to three minutes in which he exhorts people to not use "like", high rising terminals and other similar constructs but to say what they have to say clearly and positively. It's an amusing speech with little malice and with a purpose behind it. Anyone know what this is ?
Is it possible to download Youtube videos directly to a non jailbroken iphone, and if so how? [more inside]
Speaking purely hypothetically, of course--imagine you took a scenic drive. You had a camera take a time-lapse of part of the journey. You stitch it together into a video, and want to post it on youtube. Let's also say that the visible speedometer sometimes displays speeds which are not, um, congruent to the legal speed limits. [more inside]
For a while now I've been wanting to upload to YouTube audio clips of myself speaking . . . but I've no clue how to do this. [more inside]
I have a Youtube video that gets comments like these that consist of random numbers and punctuation marks that I don't understand. Why do viewers post these? I sometimes get foreign languages that I can search on Google to get the translation but this is confusing.
Thanks to upgrading my DirecTv receiver, I can now watch YouTube on my tv! What should I watch? [more inside]
I'm making a list of videos that create a very particular kind of frisson: the feeling that the world is a big place filled with experiences to have and explorations to take part in. Have some good examples inside - would love more. [more inside]
