I made a trailer for a math class using Battle Without Honor or Humanity (not very creative, sorry). Now I'm embroiled in a copyright claim and I'd like to know how to respond. I checked some old asks, but they're three years old or so. [more inside]
I noticed that many of my old favorites have been deleted, and there's one in particular that I've been itching to see again. I'm looking for a link/name/LoC listing??? of an old video clip from what seemed to be an anthropology documentary about indigenous music. My google-fu failed me. Description inside. [more inside]
Youtube has always struck me as kind of a waste land, geared towards 14-year-olds, but I've gotten interested in a particular vlogger and watch the channel as a sort of seven-minute daily dose of reality tv. So now I'm curious--what do you watch on youtube on a recurring basis that is interesting and intelligent?
Awhile ago I saw a very strange art video in which a woman is putting on lipstick, then proceeds to cover her entire face, then her entire body, in pink lipstick. [more inside]
I got one of those $50 FireOS tablets, and it works okay... EXCEPT for Youtube videos. Sometimes it's okay, but most of the time it just hangs without playing a Youtube video. I assume this spotty performance is because it's not using an official Google-YouTube app? Anyone else have this problem? If I try to put Android on it, will YouTube actually work any better? (I don't want to brick this thing if it wouldn't help anyway.)
You have a new cell phone (and contract) and you are totally in love for six months or a year. You receive the scheduled system upgrade (!) and everything is peachy. Until one day, YouTube decides it doesn't work on your phone anymore. [more inside]
I've recently really enjoyed Jordan Peterson's psychology lectures on youtube and I'd like to find more like them. Other video lectures I've enjoyed have been Shelly Kagan's Death, and Michael Sandel's Justice. Please tell me of others so I can watch them. [more inside]
Hi everyone! Not looking to copy or plagiarize - but I am just getting ready to launch a YouTube channel and I don't know what software I'm going to use to edit videos or much about how to get going. I really like the type of introductions used by YouTuber Marzia. Do you know what tools she uses to make them? More in post. [more inside]
I opened this (NSFW) YouTube video yesterday and before it played there was an ad made by Android that goes on for about 7 minutes basically imploring you to hit 'Skip Ad', it's hilarious and I would love to find the actual link to the video. [more inside]
Right now, if I find a video I really like on youtube with subpar volume, I have to download it and play it via VLC. Kind of ruins the playlist experience. Are there plugins or extensions that will do the same thing, ie increase the level of the audio output?
I'm trying to find a digital painting video, that I've seen previously on YouTube, that involved taking one finished concept art portrait of a man and altering it to create two new, different versions of the concept art. [more inside]
I was hoping to get some input as to what the best length of a YouTube video is for a new user/blogger. [more inside]
So I have this DVD with accompanying copyright information, descriptive notes and disclaimers and I'd like to put it online so others can access it. The last time I did such a thing, I ripped it and converted to FLV and used JW Player. I could do that again but I wonder if that's what people at the end of 2014 would do. Are we in a post-flash world? Could I do something similar in a different format? (Even though I have some experience with this, please "explain like I'm 5.") [more inside]
Is there a tool or service that allows you to arbitrarily add podcasts episodes to a custom feed you can subscribe to or share ? [more inside]
Now that SPOI's Youtube Options has gone subscription-only, what options are there for downloading Youtube videos in Chrome or Firefox? Userscripts.org seems to have finally bitten the dust, and the scripts it had were out of date.
Ok, I'm blowing my question on this because I can't find it and I need to watch it right now. There's a YouTube video of courier typewriter text and voice-over which talks about "A fucked up situation" that the author is recalling. If the title doesn't indicate enough of the video to you, spoilers below the fold to help you find it... because I can't find it. [more inside]
I've recently become very interested in people who record themselves playing video games and then edit and post the videos to YouTube. It's clear that some people are supporting themselves this way. What are the economics of this? Where does the money come from? How much is it? How many followers are necessary to make a living this way? Etc.
I would like to cobble together a client side script that will display YouTube links more or less like MetaFilter does - as a text link with a small "play" icon after it. Click the words you go to YouTube, click the 'play' thingus and you get an overlay. [more inside]
I find a good Let's Play to be soothing and engaging. I like Minecraft best, but am willing to consider other games that have a similar vibe. I am interested in finding good videos that are relatively mature and fun. I would also consider good tutorial series. Currently I have been watching stuff put out by Paul Soares Jr, and I like it. I have not enjoyed anything by stampylongnose because it is too frantic and clownish. I have not found my way into Far Lands or Bust, but am willing to give it a try. Basically I like watching someone go about their business and talk about whatever while they do it. Do you have recommendations? Can you say what you like about your recommended titles?
After turning on Google 2-step verification, I am having trouble signing into YouTube on my Sony Blu-ray player. Any work-around? It seems like the Sony app makes no accommodation for 2-step verification.
Does anyone know from what movie is this youtube clip? [more inside]
Video and audio of online videos (YouTube, Hulu, etc.) stutter quite often when I play them. My laptop is not old by any means and it's been recently formatted. I've updated all the drivers and tried using both the default and HTML 5 Beta players on YouTube; no difference. Seems to be worst in Chrome. Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
In the transfer of Youtube to Google, my unlisted videos have vanished. Is there a way to get them back? [more inside]
Why does each YouTube video have a special 'Share this video' link, at the http://youtu.be/ domain? Is there a meaningful difference between using the link provided and just copying the URL from the address bar? [more inside]
For the last few days, I've had trouble getting YouTube videos to play in my browser of choice, Firefox. Not even advertisements will load and I suddenly get the error message: "An error occured, please try again later." However, the video works perfectly in Chrome. [more inside]
I'm looking for a comedy short about pumpkin spice obsession. Pretty sure I saw it on Youtube, last fall or the fall before. [more inside]
Sometime ago I saw a YouTube video . We are at a poetry festival, from memory in New York state somewhere. A man comes on stage (late thirties, caucasian) - pretty sure he is a poet but what he has to say is prose. He gives an amusing address lasting two to three minutes in which he exhorts people to not use "like", high rising terminals and other similar constructs but to say what they have to say clearly and positively. It's an amusing speech with little malice and with a purpose behind it. Anyone know what this is ?
I have a Youtube video that gets comments like these that consist of random numbers and punctuation marks that I don't understand. Why do viewers post these? I sometimes get foreign languages that I can search on Google to get the translation but this is confusing.
Thanks to upgrading my DirecTv receiver, I can now watch YouTube on my tv! What should I watch? [more inside]
I feel like this video was something I saw on Metafilter a while back. It started out as two guys speaking in super bombastic theatrical voices but it turned out to be in some kind of video game, maybe an MMO. One of the characters died over and over. That's... all I remember. Help?
I'm hosting a French teenager this summer and would like to find some English-language videos for her to watch. She really likes Cyprien, a 20-something French YouTube performer. Help me find something similar in English, Hive Mind! [more inside]
Hello guys, I would like to know if it is possibel/allowed to download videos from YouTube? There are a lot of nice playlists that I would like to have with me, so how can I download them? Can you recommend anything? Thanks in advance.
I love YousableTubeFix for Firefox, which sets global preferences for things like preferred resolution (the most important feature to me), default player size, and whether to autoplay videos on channel pages. The problem: it's still blocking ads even though I told it not to. Could you recommend any other Youtube-preference-modifying Firefox userscripts or add-ons that have a similar purpose but without accidentally blocking the ads? [more inside]
Recommend other Youtube channels/artists, now that Jenna Marbles and My Drunk Kitchen are annoying? [more inside]
I'm writing the bibliography for my dissertation which is about the animation studio UPA. I need to cite a lot of theatrical cartoons from the 1950s, which I watched on youtube. This Site give intructions for citing youtube videos, but it seems like its referring to original youtube vids, not existing films. It says to list the username of the contributor as the author, and it feels wrong to credit a John Hubley cartoon to "liquidnature13". Do I need to give the cartoon's director, year of release, and studio, as well as the contributer's username and the year it was uploaded? If so, how should I format it? (I'm using the Harvard system)
Should I let my 10 year old upload gaming videos to YouTube? What issues should I think about as part of this? [more inside]

I cannot remember where I found this YouTube video. It is a song about cats in boxes. I vaguely remember the line "cats in boxes are amazing" in it. I think at some point the cat(s) may be removed from the box, and then possibly replaced in the box. The song was sung by a girl (I think) and had a sort of indie/folk-y backing to it. [more inside]
Does anybody know of a recent youtube or flash or browser update which has crippled youtube video caching? [more inside]
Is it possible to open the YouTube app from an embedded video in safari on the iPad?
I have a website that I would like to display a random youtube video upon load. I've seen some examples with PHP, but I cannot seem to properly implement them. [more inside]
What is the music in the background of this video? Bonus: Where else has it been featured? It is so familiar it's driving me batty.
Looking for a viral youtube video that was a parody of "body language" instructional videos. I think it was made by some comedy troupe a few years back. There's a part where they "decode" what people are saying with their body language, e.g. someone waves at someone else and the narrator says, "I am unarmed." And I think there's a part where they show lines coming from someone's crotch and they say, "My penis is powerful!" I think it was pretty popular and had a couple million views, but I cannot for the life of me find it.
I want to both put on false eyelashes AND rock out. [more inside]
I'm working on new finance-based startup in the Marietta, GA (just outside of Atlanta, GA) and I'd like to hire someone to come in do bi-weekly interviews of me and my team as we go through the process (kind of like the Robert Scoble interviews if you've ever seen them). It's a pretty exciting time for us and our product and I've been told by many that we should start a blog or youtube channel to share our experiences. There's also an interesting personal piece that both me and the CEO would be interested in sharing and that I think a lot of young people would be interested in hearing. The problem is that in the list of things we can spend our time doing, setting up equipment, doing the interviews, and editing the videos is low priority. Can anyone recommend a company or how I can find an individual who would be interested in doing this for us?
ID this youtube video! Skateboarding in a roller rink, ridiculous outfit, handstand tricks. Ringing any bells? [more inside]
