I'm looking for an everyday, tote/briefcase-type bag; smallish, around 12x9" and maybe 5 or 6" wide, made of canvas and leather, hoping to keep the price below $125. Any suggestions? I saw something on the train today that looked perfect, but I can't find it online. The brand was "Yosemite", which is tough to google. The logo on the label was a stylized sun with a face. Can anyone help me find that company or a different bag that fits the bill?

Planning a vacation in California in May and was thinking I would like to do some cycling and see a bit of scenery. Sonoma and Yosemite seem attractive options, but where to stay and hire bikes? How many days should I set aside for this? I could be in the San Francisco area for ten days or so.

Combination astronomy/National Parks filter: Okay, I can't stay IN Yosemite Park in August, but I can stay near it. Can I still enter the park at 3 am to watch the Perseids? Or: what's another good but possibly lesser-known national park where I can stay and watch?

I’m leaving Tucson, AZ tonight for a last minute solo road trip to San Francisco. I have 7-8 days to drive, so obviously I’ll be taking the scenic route. Where should I stop? What route should I take? What should I do? What should I eat?

So I am staying in Yosemite for one week in a friend's cabin in Fish Camp, and as long as I'm gone by the 23rd I get it for free. I have full lightweight camping/survival gear, food and a partner but no real clue if we should stay in Yosemite (can't afford a cabin, might not be any more wilderness/overnight passes left) or just slowly drive home.
So, included is a
MAP of our path home. If anyone knows of a great place to stop, be it for an hour or for a day, feel free to offer it up!
We don't have a lot of money, but we do have camping gear/food already so as long as it's not too far off the path we won't have any problem with the gas budget : )

Heading to Milpitas Monday with my husband. Next Friday afternoon, we're planning to drive up to South Lake Tahoe, where we have a hotel, and then explore the Yosemite area Saturday and Sunday before driving back Sunday evening.
Doable? Suggestions, recommendations? And what clothes should I bring--I want to pack one bag and get the most wear out of it for the entire week.

My girlfriend and I are planning a back country loop in Yosemite National Park mid to late May. How great is the risk of theft if we hike in to Little Yosemite Valley camp early and leave pretty much everything in our tent for the day while we summit Half Dome? (Personal recommendations for the park also accepted – check after the jump.)

At end of August, am heading from SF to Yosemite by Amtrak train+thruway coach, staying in the middle of the park valley for a couple of nights, then heading to Las Vegas for a couple more nights and flight back to the UK. It looks like Amtrak coach+train to Bakersfield, stay overnight there, then coach to Las Vegas is the obvious itinerary, otherwise it would be an extremely long day's travel. Any other suggestions, or anywhere better to break the trip? Many thanks.

What's the best Yosemite camp ground for a group of 8 first time visitors? We want to do some day hikes, and we want to visit as many of the "must see" places as possible. We plan on going around the middle of August for 3-4 nights.

I want to do something memorable for my 30th birthday, so my current plan is to head to Yosemite--I've never been there. However, my birthday is in December, so that's when we're going to go. Most of the Yosemite-in-winter advice online and in guidebooks seems to be outdated, and the official Yosemite website just doesn't seem that useful to me. Please give me your personal recommendations on what to do, where to stay, etc., particularly those based on recent experience.

36 Hours in Yosemite: I'll be attending a conference in San Francisco and will have most of the weekend to kill. We've already booked a hotel room just outside Yosemite National Park. I plan on seeing the Giant Sequoias, and generally just driving around. There's so much to see there that only 36 hours seems like a travesty. Alas. What are some must see things there that I can enjoy at a relatively relaxed pace in my short time there?

I live in San Jose, CA and I recently got a new (used) SV650S motorcycle. I am looking for tips with regard to doing some touring and/or camping using the bike.
Also, if you have any tips on how to have a more pleasant time getting to Yosemite and the rest of the Sierra than riding through the flotilla of bugs that is the central valley, I'm all ears.
