Mysterious MacBook temporary spinning ball when attaching to email

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina which I recently upgraded to Yosemite. Ever since, when I'm trying to attach a file to an email (Gmail), when I try to click on the file in the finder window that opens, I get a spinning ball for about 8 seconds. Then it stops for a second or two, spins another second or two, and stops. I am then able to attach the file. This does not happen every time — sometimes (maybe one out of three tries) the attaching works correctly without hesitation. [more inside]

2011 Mac Mini DIY fusion drive issues...help please

The stock drive on my mid 2011 mac mini, model 5,2, recently became a brick. So, I got the idea I would create a fusion drive using a 120gb SSD and 1tb HDD. When I start the machine in (command+R) recovery mode, the SSD and HDD appear as separate drives. I had been expecting for disk utility to list the drives in RED with the option to "fix". How can I turn these two drives into a fusion drive? Is a Fusion drive even necessary? (~more info below~) [more inside]

Yosemite National Park for the differently-abled

Taking a trip to Yosemite (yes, the park!) next month and some of us can't walk long distances. What are the best things to do that don't involve lots of walking or that don't depend on you being able to keep going? Like we're not going to wind up stranded in the wilderness because we used up our walking spoons earlier than expected. [more inside]

Ghost in the Machine

My laptop is being wacky. Without me touching the volume keys when typing, the volume keeps re-adjusting--up, off, down, whatever. Additionally, iTunes is opening up when I have not tried to open it. I can quit, force quit, restart, whatever. It just keeps happening. MacBook Pro mid-2012 running Yosemite 10.10.2. iTunes 12.0.0.140. I could update iTunes, but I am out of the country with limited bandwidth. Any ideas what is going on?

How to bring active window to foreground in OS X?

I just got my new MacBook Pro and I want to get to work, but I cannot figure out why active windows remain in the background. Clicking on an inactive window doesn't bring it to the foreground. If I want to actually see what's in the active window, I have to minimize the inactive window that's on top. I've looked at different settings but I don't see how to change this. Help is much appreciated.

How Do I Stop Text Messages Occurring on My Mac?

I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to Yosemite. Everything seems to be fine, except for the fact that my iPhones text messages now happen on my computer (I think this is the continuity feature?). Anyway, I want this to stop. Of course, I Googled it before I posted, here, but the fixes that I found, don't appear to be relevant (they were from 2014 and probably from Mavericks). For example, one fix suggested opening the Messages app on your Mac (which I did) and open the Preferences menu, which I don't see. Can anyone help me stop this?? Thanks!

MacBook Pro is *slow* when I back up with Time Machine

I have a 2-year-old MacBook Pro with a 500 GB SSD running Yosemite. It was fine until 3 days ago, when the computer slowed to a crawl. I rebooted several times; each time, it got slow again. I eventually realized that it slowed down when trying to back up to the external hard drive. I ran Disk Utility, which found no errors on the SSD or the external hard drive. [more inside]

Favorite tent site in TUOLUMNE MEADOWS?

I'm planning a trip to Yosemite next July (15) and have heard that we need to book the campsites about 5 months in advance. Looking for smallish canvas and leather tote/briefcase

I'm looking for an everyday, tote/briefcase-type bag; smallish, around 12x9" and maybe 5 or 6" wide, made of canvas and leather, hoping to keep the price below $125. Any suggestions? I saw something on the train today that looked perfect, but I can't find it online. The brand was "Yosemite", which is tough to google. The logo on the label was a stylized sun with a face. Post Yosemite Driving.

So I am staying in Yosemite for one week in a friend's cabin in Fish Camp, and as long as I'm gone by the 23rd I get it for free. I have full lightweight camping/survival gear, food and a partner but no real clue if we should stay in Yosemite (can't afford a cabin, might not be any more wilderness/overnight passes left) or just slowly drive home. So, included is a MAP of our path home. If anyone knows of a great place to stop, be it for an hour or for a day, feel free to offer it up! We don't have a lot of money, but we do have camping gear/food already so as long as it's not too far off the path we won't have any problem with the gas budget : )

How should I travel from Yosemite to Las Vegas sans car?

At end of August, am heading from SF to Yosemite by Amtrak train+thruway coach, staying in the middle of the park valley for a couple of nights, then heading to Las Vegas for a couple more nights and flight back to the UK. It looks like Amtrak coach+train to Bakersfield, stay overnight there, then coach to Las Vegas is the obvious itinerary, otherwise it would be an extremely long day's travel. Any other suggestions, or anywhere better to break the trip? Many thanks.
