You live in New York City. (Brooklyn, to be exact.) You have two weeks of unemployment before you start a new job, during which you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT. You don't have a car, so staying within the realm of public transportation is important. Where do you go? What do you do? [more inside]

I need to buy (gack!) my own health insurance. I'm in New York state. I'm looking for very good coverage. Would rather pay more for high-quality, flexible, non-nitpicky coverage (if such a thing exists), and then economize by opting for high deductibles. I once lived in CT for a short while, and loved Anthem Blue Cross. But I've heard horror stories about Empire Blue Cross in NY. What other options are out there?

Looking for a good place to write in New York City. I presently use the Priest/Rose Reading Rooms at the Schwarzman Building on 42nd & 5th, which is beautiful and great except for the fact that it doesn't open until 10am and 1pm Sundays. I would be looking for something similar to the library reading rooms that would be open earlier (ideally 8am) and offer the same amenities such as; a power outlet, internet (if possible) and a inspiring atmosphere. I searched mefi for other similar questions and have only found this one, which focuses more on coffee house and outdoor settings. Please advise. Also let me know if there are any university libraries, private libraries or clubs (located in or near Manhattan) that I could use/join that fulfill my meager requirements. Thank you.

My wife and I live in an expensive (by non-NYC standards) NYC apartment. Recently, lamenting how much of our salary went down the rent drain, we wondered if we could save money by living in a van. (This is a thought experiment. We're not really planning on doing it.) Is this feasible economically? [more inside]

If a building (in New York City) is listed as being accessible for disabled people, are you allowed to ask them if they're disabled before letting them use the elevator and deny them access to it if they say they're not? Can anyone give me advice (outside of Craigslist) on finding housing options in New York City that run month to month? I've lived in the East Village for two years, but was able to sign a lease. I just finished grad school and don't have a full-time job secured, so signing a new lease is not viable for me right now. I'm looking for something that's under $800 a month, in a safe area, in Manhattan (probably not going to happen at that range), Queens, or Brooklyn, and as easily accessible from the train as possible. Astoria, Jackson Heights, Park Slope, or Long Island City would be ideal.

Location scout filter: What are some great locations in & around NYC for photography? Mr. Brunette and I are headed to Manhattan this week with our four-month old for a three-day excursion. We've already seen this so we think we've got the car seat/cab thing sussed but we're still seeking tips for making the most of a hot, long weekend. Considering the kid won't remember any of this, we're aiming to do things that we'll enjoy but that also are suitable for carting around the baby and snap and go stroller. We're staying on the Upper West Side and are keen to visit the MoMA, Museum of Natural History and the Guggenheim. Debating the Circle Line cruise and wondering how this is best done (if at all) with long lines, car seat, etc. Also, any tips on vegetarian, baby friendly restaurants? Thanks!
