Zipcar Update?

Daytrip Dreamin': I've read the previous question about Zipcars in NYC, but it's about a year old and I have some specific questions. I am considering joining, but have heard that the availability is not terrific. What's it like for a daytrips out of the city? Any big problems? Does it make sense if you're only planning to use it 2 or three times a year?

Ethnic Jewelry in NYC?

I'm looking for a store in New York City (Manhattan and Brooklyn, ideally) that sells ethnic and sterling silver jewelry.

The store could have clothes, accessories, or art, but it should have a significant amount of jewelry for sale.

Can anyone help me out? I'm of course googling on my own, but this is the kind of place you would know when you see it, and I can't walk all the streets of NYC.

Thanks for any leads.

Dear Abby, I'm looking for a good witch doctor. Yours, anxious in NYC.

I need a good psychiatrist / neurologist in NYC. Oxford Health Plan. All my life, I've suffered from anxiety. It's low grade. I don't have panic attacks. I function as I'm supposed to and perform well at my job. I come from a family of Woody-Allen-esque Jews, so I figured that anxiety was simply my birthright. Most of my relatives are worry warts.

At 43, I've had an epiphany: I don't have to -- or at least I shouldn't have to -- live that way for the rest of my life. It's not fun or romantic or funny. I'm tired of walking around with a slightly queasy stomach all the time. I'm tired of constant what-if thoughts and sleepless nights. I want to be able to truly relax.

I've done the talking cure before, and I think it can be effective for some things, but that's not the route I'd like to go now. (Though if an MD suggests it as part of a treatment regime, I'm open to it.) I've also tried meditation. So far I've failed with that, but I'll keep trying. I'd love to try biofeedback some time, but that's another story.

What I've never tried is meds. I suspect that my life would be better if I was on some sort of anxiety medication. I want to explore this option (and other options) with an expert. Who should I see?

Vote Early and Often

What's the scoop on early voting in New York? I'd like to vote early, in person, in Manhattan. According to Obama's website, There is no early voting in New York; according to the NYC Board of Elections' website, "Absentee voting in person begins as soon as the ballots are available (at least 32 days before an election)."

I may be out of town on November 4., and I fear that by requesting an absentee ballot this late in the game, I may jeopardize my ability to vote. My mailing address is a P.O. box that takes black holes right out of the realm of the theoretical and incontravertibly proves that at least one exists, and it's in Morningside Heights. I'm talking, mail arriving weeks late (a separate gripe that may warrant its own AskMeFi post).

I've spent a while unsuccessfully slogging through the automated menus of 1-866-VOTE-NYC and, as seen above, Google returns conflicting results. I thought about getting a ballot in person at the Board of Elections Office, but given that the info I found on early voting may be suspect, I wonder about picking up absentee ballots in person, too.

Anyone got good intel or suggestions? Thanks, kids. Fifteen days.

Shady Broker Situation

My broker is trying to charge another fee to put someone new on the lease for the NYC apt. we've been living in for 3 years. Is this legal? Do I have any recourse? Brief backstory: About 3+ years ago, two friends paid a broker's fee and signed the lease on an apartment in Manhattan. One moved out and I sublet (legally) for a few months. Eventually, we added my name to the lease. I didn't pay a broker's fee, just $100 or so for a credit check.

Now my roommate is moving out and I found someone new to move in. Our broker is trying to charge this new guy a broker's fee for the new lease, even though I did the work. Is this legal? Do I have any options other than losing the apartment?

I'd appreciate any help - thanks!

What are NYC resturants with gardens?

Please guide me toward restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn with gardens and/or great outdoor areas. As my front page question asked, I am searching for restaurants in Manhattan and Brooklyn with gardens and/or outdoor spaces. I am convinced that there are other places than those listed on Citysearch and in New York Magazine! Ideally, the restaurant would serve as a place for a wedding ceremony and reception. Thanks.

What to do when you FINALLY clean out your closet

The cleaning out of my closet (finally) has resulted in two garbage bags full of clothes. Now what should I do with them? I'm in NYC. I will donate the majority of the clothes to charity, but I'm not sure exactly where I can/should take them. It would be a bonus if it was close to where I live on the Lower East Side.
I'd also like to try to sell some of the clothes, as a lot of them are new or only worn a few times. I really want to get rid of them as fast as possible though, because I know if I start looking through them again, I'll probably reconsider and keep a ton of things that I just don't need. So no ebay, I don't need them sitting in my apartment waiting for me to get tempted and put them back into my closet. I don't expect to make a large amount of money at all, but it would be nice to make something. Is there any place (again, near me, I can't be lugging these things around!) that buys large amounts of clothes/shoes/jewelry?
I feel really guilty, I don't think I'll be buying clothes for a looooong time....

New York through film?

Help me discover New York City through film--before I visit! My wife and I will be visiting NYC for six days and five nights in mid-May. I've never been to the city, and she's only been once. I'm the kind of guy who likes to know a lot about my destination before I arrive, so I've been scouring guide books and websites, trying to learn as much as possible.

I'd like to learn about New York through film, though, too. I have access to BlockbusterOnline.com, so I've ordered an 8-part documentary, and I've always loved the musical "Out On The Town," so I've included it, as well. (I know it's old, stylized, and hopefully out-of-date, but I love it.) What films should I order, though, that will give me an accurate idea of NYC as it exist today? Or is this too tall an order? Any other suggestions, apart from film, guide books, and the web, that will help me with my research? All help is appreciated!
