Thanks to all the help I got on this question I've decided on a two week trip from Las Vegas to Glacier National park. Our destinations are various parks in Utah, Yellowstone/Tetons and Glacier NP. Our focus is nature and history. I haven't mapped out our route and would like help with 1) must see things and 2) one or two cities/town that are interesting and fun. Traveling -> one 9 year old boy and 4 adults.
Can you recommend hikes in the Yellowstone area in June? [more inside]
I would love to get some targeted advice on how to optimize this trip I'm trying to plan. Here are the parameters: East Coast Family (ECF) and West Coast Family (WCF) each consist of a couple plus two little girls. ECF has an additional toddler too, and probably an au pair. ECF and WCF would like to rent a house together somewhere that is lovely and relaxing, and adjacent to interesting nearby outdoor activities. [more inside]
We have an opportunity to visit Yellowstone National Park and/or environs, and Mt Rushmore, etc. BUT, the window is limited to the first 2 weeks of July. Is that a horrible time to visit, given that I hate crowds and 85+ degree temps without relief (breaks in air conditioned spaces)? In terms of potential crowds of people, are there places nearby YNP that are less crowded and just as interesting/beautiful to visit? (We'd be driving between Colorado and Minnesota.)
Considering a trip to Yellowstone starting on April 17th, but the information on the site is sparse about what's really available. Any MeFis with experience here? [more inside]

Yellowstone lodging and other Yellowstone-related suggestions [more inside]
We going to be visiting Yellowstone sometime in the next two weeks (our dates are flexible). Lodging inside the park is sold out. Can anyone recommend some good places to stay near the park? We'd like to spend less than $200/night but we might be willing to pay more for a great place or location. We also want to stay at a good dude ranch near Yellowstone or Grand Teton NP for a few days.
My wife and I want to visit Yellowstone National Park in September. We have two weeks and we're thinking about flying into Denver and renting an RV, which we've never done before. We'd like to get input from others who have rented one (like what size and what companies to use or avoid) and hear any other suggestions that will help us have a great vacation.
Please suggest a Canon lens for a trip to Yellowstone. Long story. [more inside]

Please help a family of four with an outdoorsy but non-camping trip to the Grand Tetons and Salt Lake City!
Our family of four (Mom, Dad, 2 boys ages 8 & 12) wants to enjoy Yellowstone Park, the Grand Tetons, and possibly shoot down to the Salt Lake City area for about a week in late July 2012. We love the outdoors, but can't bring camping gear. Will we be able to find spontaneous lodging in cheap hotels or cabins for under $100 per night - or do we need to book everything waaay in advance?
