What's the timeline of a conventionally treated yeast infection?

I have a yeast infection. I've been treating it since wednesday afternoon. I'm trying to figure out how long I can expect symptoms to last and when I should be concerned that maybe something else is happening. Bear with me for the probably stupid question that I'm having to ask at the ripe age of 41, as I can't seem to find this answer via google and there are some... complicating factors. [more inside]

drought down under

For some time now, I have been having increasing problems with vaginal and vulvar irritation and dryness. Anyone have any idea what this could be? I know YANMD and I should call mine, but I do all my gyno stuff through Planned Parenthood (I do have good insurance but I like them and I'm relatively comfortable there). They are closed for a couple of days, and will probably not be able to get me in for a couple of weeks. Many distracting and unpleasant details within. [more inside]

How do I get this infection to go away and stay away?

I have had a recurring bacterial vaginosis and yeast infection for over a year. I treat it, it goes away, and a few months later, it's back. To make matters more complicated, I don't have the typical symptoms. What originally lead me to think something was up is that I have to pee constantly, so I thought I had a UTI (which I have never had before). Turns out, I had a vaginal infection, and no UTI. It's been a year of this and I'm getting really frustrated. I'm seeing my ob/gyn next week about this, so I am not looking to metafilter as a substitute for medical advice. I want to know if there's anything I should be discussing with my doctor that I haven't already, or if I should be pushing for a referral to a specialist. More details and TMI below. [more inside]

dog ear infection

My little dog seems to have an ear infection -- head tilting, ear-scratching, ear-shaking, general sadness. She has a vet appointment Saturday, for an unrelated follow-up, and I will tell the vet about it then. In the meantime, would it hurt her to give her some of the miconosol eardrops (1%) I have left over from when this happened before? [more inside]

My anti-yeast infection diet makes me sleepy

I am on a no-sugar/very low-sugar diet to help combat a yeast infection. My diet consists of fish, a little bit of yogurt, good fats, and leafy greens and other non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables. Since I started it I crash every afternoon at exactly 2:00--right at the beginning of a class. How can I avoid this without resorting to coffee or high-glycemic foods? [more inside]
