I am on a no-sugar/very low-sugar diet to help combat a yeast infection. My diet consists of fish, a little bit of yogurt, good fats, and leafy greens and other non-starchy, non-sweet vegetables. Since I started it I crash every afternoon at exactly 2:00--right at the beginning of a class. How can I avoid this without resorting to coffee or high-glycemic foods? [more inside]

Two days ago I made a simple quinoa dish with carrot and zucchini squash. I added copious amounts of brewer's yeast for flavor and nutrional value, and threw it all into a tightly-sealed tupperware container while it was still warm. I then placed it into my backback for later consumption. [more inside]

We got our Green-Cheek Conure about 10 days ago; he is about 4 months old. This afternoon at his checkup to make sure he was “fit for purchase,” a strange microorganism was found in his fecal sample. The vet had never seen it before. The microorganism is about equal in size to Megabacteria (i.e. really big for something microscopic) and it looks like a pine needle: a long, skinny, tapered cigar shape. Some of the pine needles have nodes in the center (see drawing inside for a rough visual interpretation.) Have any of you ever seen or heard of a microorganism like this? Research online has turned up nothing so far. Our best guess is that it is a yeast of some sort (like Megabacteria, also known as Avian Gastric Yeast.) [more inside]

My father in law is one who can never pass up (in his mind anyway) a bargain. He likes to make bread so instead of buying the small packets of yeast, he buys the big, CostCo, industrial size bag of yeast. Once he opens that, how long until the efficiency of the yeast is diminished?
