What is this mysterious process that hijacked my shortcut? I was using Photoshop CS2 and entered the shortcut key for "Save for Web" (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S) and instead of getting the Save for Web dialog, a very minimalist login box appeared. Intrigued, I brought up the Task manager, right-clicked on the "Login" entry in the list, and selected "Go To Process." The process turned out to be C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vidifker.exe. [more inside]

I'd like to buy a new laptop and to avoid Vista. Further, I have spent years getting the look and feel of my XP computer just the way I want it: properly functioning software, settings just right, internet programs securely locked down, etc. What problems will I encounter if I try to restore a disk image of the current laptop's configuration onto a brand new laptop (first erasing the Vista after making a disk image of Vista's base configuration). For example, what authentication hoops will I have to jump thru to get future Window's XP updates? Might there be any hardware/software incompatibilities? Any licensing issues for non Microsoft software that might be tied to a certain machine? (A dual boot machine is a possibility, I suppose, although that seems complicated.)

Mix folders and files alphabetically in XP Details view? I don't want them sorted by name showing folder-names separate from file-names. Mixed was always the default Mac way, which I still crave. After years on XP I still haven't found a way. I've tried various 3rd party multi-pane file managers and did find one to do that, but it costs too much. Also, another freeware manager but it's only single-pane. I want either a simple regedit or a freeware multi-pane manager.
