Might wanna watch your speed in Wyoming, partner...

So...what's with jail terms for speeding tickets in Wyoming? My twenty-three year old son got a call last week from one of his fellow newly graduated buddies...seems the buddy was pulled over for speeding in Wyoming and given THREE DAYS IN JAIL for it.

THREE DAYS.

My son got pulled over for speeding in Colorado and just got a warning.

Granted, from what he tells me, the roads in Wyoming are long, straight, uncrowded, and very tempting to use when trying to see what your car will do. But three days in the pokey?

So, what is the scoop on this?

I would really appreciate recomendations for any cool places to stop along the way. Cool museums, cheap flea markets, places to buy cool jewelry, cool parks, places to camp, vegetarian resteraunts etc. And also the best places to stay in Yellowstone as thAT's where we'll be spending most of our time.

Colorado and Wyoming Fishing Tips?

We're going fly fishing in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming next week. What should we make sure not to miss? We'll be mostly car camping, but aren't averse to packing in for a few days. The group ranges from ninja skilled fish stalkers to Mr. Bean style casting, but we're not going to limit ourselves by that.
Songs about Western and Midwestern States?

Mixtape filter: I need songs that reference any of the states of California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Utah. The boyfriend and I are taking a roadtrip to all of these places. I want to include some songs on this mix about the states we will be visiting. Even a one line mention is okay, or even songs that allude to geographical areas or special traits about the state. Bonus points if it's folk or metal.

Things I'm thinking of already:
-"North Dakota" by Lyle Lovett
-"Number 6 Driver" by Eddie From Ohio (lyrics: "and there's a cold wind blowin' in Wyoming...")
-"Nebraska" by Bruce Springsteen

Showdown at Big Sky

Why is the sky so much bigger in Wyoming and Montana than everywhere else? For several summers when I was younger, my mom, my sister, and I would road trip from California to Wyoming, where my mom grew up. She used to tell us that as soon as one crossed the border from Utah to Wyoming, the sky would suddenly expand and become enormous. I'm sure it wasn't really so sudden, but it seemed totally true. By the time we got to Evanston, the sky would have exploded.

I was reminded of this when I watched Brokeback Mountain, which did a beautiful job of capturing the wide open expanses, the great purple mountains, and the huge blue sky. And I started wondering - hey, why? I don't think it's just the openness of the landscape, because I've been in other open, flatter areas and the sky didn't seem so big.

I haven't spent as much time in Montana but assume it's the same deal there, as they have a town named after it.

So why's the sky so big in Wyoming and Montana, and is there anywhere else in the world with the same phenomenon?

Question number 12390

I'm taking a snowboarding trip to Wyoming this winter break and I will be using a plane at least three times during this period. Naturally, I will be carrying a snowboard and all my other equipment on the plane. How should I go about protecting my board? Should I just use a soft case to protect from scratches or should I be more concerned? Also, are there any products anyone can specifically recommend?
