I've been writing short fiction. I've got my process down pretty well, to the point that I am not getting stuck in writer's block hell or any other common pitfalls. I have ideas, and I'm capable of getting them down on paper. I revise them, I produce new drafts, etc.
My problem comes in the last phase of the process. I don't know when to say something is
done.

Help me prepare for a writing contest! In September I signed up for a competition where I will have 48 hours to come up with a short (<8 min) film script. They will reveal a specific "catch", a theme, prop or other constraint which must be incorporated into every entry.

Help me find the name/author of a short story with the following plot:
human children are the work slaves of gremlins (goblins?), and made to do manual labor underground. Those with good behavior and who are getting older are "graduated" and told that they're being freed, but after a gremlin-only "ceremony," are killed for food instead.
