In a religious studies course I took eight or nine years ago, the professor mentioned a Jewish congregation in NYC whose services looked almost identical to high-church Anglican services, just with the liturgies changed out. Now that I live in the New York City area (and am dating someone who is Episcopalian-Jewish), I'm quite interested in checking this out, but nothing I can think to search for on Google is turning up the right results. Any MeFi-ites have any idea which congregation this might be?

I really like the spacious, dark, and mysterious sound of Worship's Leviathan
. What other tracks and groups feature this sound?

Can anyone provide a source for this
creepy screencap of two men dressed in formal white clothing preparing a child to present to a disembodied goat head lurking behind a plastic curtain?

To gush or not to gush? Quite unexpectedly a very highly respected musician who is responsible for my first emotional response to music at the grand old age of 8, and who shaped my taste in music greatly from that time onwards, contacted me for help via email. [more inside]

Is there a specific name for the Catholic candles you can get at Mexican grocery stores? The ones in glass jars with pictures of saints, Marias, or Jesus? And can anyone tell me more about them, such as how they fit into Catholicism or their cultural resonances? I'm curious about them, and I've found remarkably little info on the internet-- which leads me to wonder if I'm not using the right search term, or if (egads!) there actually is not a website out there with information.

Trying to figure out if there is an "ism" or "acy" word for a governmental system of ruler worship (i.e. like the ancient Egyptian systems which considered their rulers Gods). Any specific terms for this?
