My thousandth exercise question: My exercise routine needs some tweaking. Please advise. I need options for exercise at home on days that it's too hot to go out, and given certain other restrictions. [more inside]
So, I'm looking to lose a little weight, get healthier and tone up. I'd also like to do it in the comfort of my own home. What's the one item of equipment most likely to achieve this? It has to be one only, I don't have space, money nor the inclination for an entire home gym. The plan is to set it up in the open living area of the home where I can squeeze some workout time in whilst I watch my two young kids. (For time and convenience reasons, I won't be joining a gym. Also, I hate gyms.) Ideally, I will be hiring the equipment initially. What are your thoughts?
I'm looking for the best YouTube workout videos/channels, in the 20-60 minute range. Specifics for me inside but I'm happy to also have recs for great videos that don't suit me now but may suit my later, or help other people! [more inside]
I've got a fair bit of travel coming up in the next couple of months, and am time poor at the best of times. Any suggestions for a source of free/cheap downloadable workout videos that are primarily bodyweight focussed? My motivation fluctuates, but I find things like videos and apps are generally helpful to staying fit and focussed. [more inside]
I recently bought an Ironman Essential watch by Timex because I thought it would track intervals, but it seems to only have 1 timer. I need something that will track a warm up of 1m/30s for 10 reps, then a workout of 2m/1m for 7 reps, then a cool down walk. [more inside]

Should I run? Complications: fat, crackly knees, plantar fasciitis, clumsiness. If I should run, any advice on doing it right? [more inside]
I started running last year, and I really enjoy it! I've stayed relatively dedicated to the routine and genuinely look forward to it. However, I think I've pushed myself about as far as I need to with running and I'd love to expand my regiment with other activities, but I honestly don't really know anything about fitness and don't really have any friends to ask about it. [more inside]
I would really like to get back into shape in the coming months, but I can’t figure out what sport or exercise program would be right for me. I do not need to lose weight. Snowflakes inside. [more inside]
I hate excercising, so I'll take any excuse not to. But I have to be honest with myself. I'm beyond the age where I can just eat what I want, not work out, and avoid getting over weight. Far beyond. I'm much more out of shape than I should be. My pants don't fit right anymore, and it's getting worse. My last excuse for not working out is that it's hard to fit into my schedule. Please help destroy that excuse by telling me your routine. [more inside]
I think we learn best not through rigid reading lists and assignments but when we follow our interests freeform. Yet habits, routines, calorie counting, repetitive exercises, and other finger-wagging components of "health as a necessary chore" seem to be the prevalent attitude in nutrition and physical fitness. How could one get really healthy through the fitness and diet equivalents of reading randomly for pleasure, tinkering, exploring, and problem solving for the joy of it?
I’ve noticed that wearing workout clothing/gear that makes me feel good, tough, and strong, can actually give me a little extra mental confidence to make me better, tougher, and stronger in my workouts. What kinds of workout clothing and accessories make you feel badass? [more inside]
I need to jumpstart my fitness which is currently non-existent. Would a FitBit help me (& the SO) be less lazy and more motivated? Did you use a fitbit or similar device to help you get on a fitness track? Or did you use another method?
I need to develop a balanced daily workout for the next six months, specifically designed for limited and somewhat unusual spaces. Assume I have no access to traditional weights or fitness machines of any kind and that level ground and traditional cardio options will be at a premium. What 10 exercises can I do to approximate a whole-body workout? [more inside]
So right now, my rock gym has a private fitness class six days a week, modeled on crossfit but not officially affiliated. MWFS it's a fairly standard CF class with slightly different movements. T-Th, it's a more mobility-focused class based around MoveNat. In a month, the T-Th classes will be eliminated, and extra mobility will be added to the now 90 minute MWFS classes. [more inside]
I have a lot of trouble getting motivated to go to the gym and staying motivated once I'm there. I need a gym partner, but snowflake details are making it difficult. [more inside]
The fact I never liked the "traditional" forms of exercise never bothered me before. That is, until it recently dawned on me activities like going to the gym or running might be the only options I have left. But, with sensitive knees and shins from growing quickly and the residual effects of childhood asthma still occasionally inhibiting my ability to do cardio, these activities seem more foreign than ever. What can I do? [more inside]
I have an iPad. I am looking for a good workout app to coach me through routines involving little or (better) no equipment. What do you recommend?
I'm pretty darn overweight and do not exercise...at all. Recently, I found a series of workout videos on youtube that I actually enjoy doing and I'd like some help finding some more so I can keep going and not get bored and quit. [more inside]

I need some fitness goals beyond the vague "get in shape" and the too-common "run a marathon". Can you help me come up with small, concrete, achievable goals? [more inside]
I've been working out for about two months with a personal trainer. She started off having me do full body workouts that I quite enjoyed - they were sort of boot camp style, in that it was a combination of strength and cardio (ie. lots of burpees and mountain climbers and planks, mixed in with compound strength bearing exercises.) Much to my surprise i have gotten much fitter than I've ever been before, pretty quickly. Now my trainer is transitioning me to workouts that alternate upper body and lower body each day, with more of a focus on strength vs cardio. Is this better? [more inside]
Before the holidays I started a new strength training regimen and I've been really consistent so far. I really, really want to keep it up during an upcoming trip to NYC in February. I haven't had much luck searching for gyms with single-visit fees or similar. Can anyone offer advice / help? [more inside]

I just signed up for a 5K on Dec. 3. I'm certainly not ready to RUN 3.1 miles, so I'm going to walk it (and the event is called a run/walk, so it is a walker-friendly race, at least). What kind of training can I do before then to do my best that day, since there's barely any time left? I'm at a healthy weight and in OK shape but usually only exercise one or two times a week. I'd like my time to be under one hour, if possible. Tips? (Bonus question: are most 5Ks walker-friendly?)
