Memorial for family member planned while I'm away working

Someone in my extended family passed away. Her only child just told me that he'd like to plan a memorial for a future date while other relatives are in town. He and I were very close growing up, have somewhat drifted, but lately have been in one another's lives again. His mom was his only immediate family member. I already know I'm scheduled to be away from home working for three weeks at that time. Do I cancel, or proceed? [more inside]

Working in Rutherford, NJ. Where should I live? Can I live in NYC?

I'm a single, college-educated, mid-twenties male who will very likely be relocating from the West Coast to the Tri-State area in a few months for a full-time desk job in Rutherford, New Jersey. I'd love to know your recommendations for affordable rooms, apartments, studios, etc. in safe and convenient neighborhoods. [N.B. I grew up in and lived in South Brooklyn for many years, so I'm familiar with the NYC area, but I've never lived in NJ nor ever considered living there in the past.] [more inside]

Switching to 12-hour night shifts: what am I missing?

I'm a new nurse, just getting used to working second shift, now I'm switching to overnight 12-hour shifts. I haven't fully adjusted to the second shift way of life after two months of it, so I'm rather concerned with how this is going to go. What are some careers with good Work/Life Balance?

What are some careers with good Work/Life Balance? A job I don't have to think about outside of work and one that will not leave me drained at the end of the day so I can do other things and have hobbies. Also, a good amount of vacation time, more than a measly 2 weeks. It would be awesome if I could take a month or two off at a time once a year once I get enough seniority. [more inside]

Thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.

I feel like I'm trying to do too many things at once, all of them poorly. I also feel that I'm doing myself a big disservice by being in this situation. I feel like my life is in total disorder. I feel like I'm losing the race, to be honest. I'm afraid that the only way to win the race is to run faster, which I'm finding very difficult. Sordid details following. [more inside]

Am I being a wuss?

I've been coming to terms with possibly having a chronic auto-inflammatory and/or auto-immune disease. YANMD, YANAD, but you might be a patient or someone dealing with a similar situation. My question.
