Group paper and questions about plagiarism...

I just submitted a group paper. Hours before I ran it through a plagiarism checker, turns out two (!) of the group members had directly copy and pasted sentences from accademic articles into our paper. In total, no more than five sentences were plagiarized These sentences were cited but not quoted directly. I informed all group members who seemed unconcerned...Is this a big deal? Is it worth reporting? (Fwiw, I edited their work before submitting a final copy)

Is it worth leaving one job for another for the same pay?

I'm employed now but have been job-searching for a few months. I've finally found a company that I'd like to work for. The disappointing part is, the final offer they've made is for a lower salary than I'd wanted; after crunching the numbers, I would be earning the same as what I earn at my current job, with no title change. Is it a good idea to move to a new employer for equivalent pay, if the only discernable difference between the two is that the new job seems more interesting? [more inside]

How to work under an insecure boss?

I'm struggling with a social / political issue at work. I have been in my current job for about a year. Apologetic about success?

What I do in terms of career/projects/desire are all one and the same. And I'm lucky enough to be paid to do what I love, and I continue to do it. It just so happens that lately, within the past year or so, I've been especially "successful". But much of my friends/acquaintances are not really in a similar position, which makes me feel guilty/weird about sharing what's going on in my life. I feel apologetic about my so-called "success", which leads me to under-share about myself. Help? [more inside]

make $ and retire early, or take federal job with more security?

Imagine you have the choice of taking (1) a very lucrative but highly demanding and stressful job in your current city, and (2) a federal job that requires a move and that pays only 25% of the lucrative job. Job 1 comes with an initial 2-year contract. While there's a possibility of getting sacked after two years, I imagine they'd renew the contract for at least two years, and if I'm performing well, I could keep going after that. If I got sacked, I could probably find another similar but probably less lucrative job, but it would take time and be quite stressful. Federal job is presumably more stable. Which would you take? Possibly relevant details: early 40's, married, no kids (and no plans of having any), very substantial savings to date, home-owner (with mortgage), currently living in big city. Interested in hearing your life experiences vis-a-vis working life and retirement. Are there benefits to trying to maximize income early and getting out of the game, vs a more slow and steady approach that provides more security? I'm clueless about retirement and recognize that a financial planner could help, but for now I'm more interested in hearing other's experiences.

I've forgotten how to work.

I'm a dissertating graduate student who, due to a whole host of factors over the course of a few years, has basically forgotten how to work. I spend days upon days at home, sometimes doing things and sometimes just hanging out, but the things I do are rarely dissertation-related (or they could be broadly work related, but aren't note-taking or actually writing the thing). As a result I have no dissertation progress to speak of, very limited levels of committee support remaining, and a bleak outlook. I used to be a real go-getter.
