Self- sabotage: A beast with two heads

For the past few years, I've had to deal with what seems like procrastination's more stubborn cousin. It's not just a tendency to put things off- it feels like a visceral, physically-manifested resistance to doing things that should involve no forethought in terms of effort whatsoever, or that do, but that would only serve to help me better myself if I managed to get them done. How to work under an insecure boss?

I'm struggling with a social / political issue at work. I have been in my current job for about a year. I am a little overqualified for the position, but I really like most aspects of it and it's a small enough field that other similar jobs are hard to come by, so I'd vastly prefer it if the solution doesn't involve quitting. Looking for social work jobs in San Francisco...

I'm an ASW in Southern California and I'm relocating to San Francisco. What are some good resources/agencies for finding social work jobs in SF? I've used Indeed, Craigslist, and the UCSF website, but I don't know of enough agencies/hospitals up there to know which websites to check for job openings. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

What to do now so I can get into a top-ranked MSW program next year?

I applied to one of the most competitive MSW programs with hopes of becoming a clinical social worker. I didn't get in. I'd rather not lower my standards and go to a less competitive school. This particular school is the one where I want to get my degree. What can I do now to boost my application for next year or the year after that? I know the obvious answer would be to volunteer. More specifically: Where should I volunteer? In what capacity? How do I write an awesome essay and get great recommendation letters? Also: what are some resources for the MSW application process?

How to do Social Media without being a Douchebag?

So, I've recently inherited the community and social media role for the company I work for. Oh no you didn't

Recently in a social situation I was asked my thoughts on a budgeting item and I gave it along with a solution that I had given thought to and was planning on presenting to the budget chair. (We work in different departments but run things past each other on occasion). One of the people at the gathering was a woman with political ambitions for our small town. A few days later she wrote a letter to the editor that gave my exact idea. What would you do? On the plus side it was very well received, OTH it was mine. I realize I should have said nothing and it was my mistake. I figure people that were there would know it wasn't hers and hopefully someone will point that out. Can I address it or should I leave it?

Help an ENTP narrow down their career path choices....

In the last couple months I've come to realize that I am not alone. My personality is my problem and it is what has made this post-college thing so hard on me. ENTPs are sort of visionaries who can be the best and innovate and succeed at anything we put our heart to but we get bored very easily if we aren't socially, creatively satisfied and doing some "analysis" or "innovation" or "problem solving". We also don't take well to being "told what to do". (Sort of like a cross between Steve Jobs (visionary, creative, secretly self-obsessed) Calvin (from the comic), Jack Sparrow, The Joker, and Wile E. Coyote. ) [more inside]

A Master's in Waitressing.

I've just graduated with my Master's in Social Work and am waiting to be approved to take the licensing exam in my state. Getting a job without a license is veeeery difficult. Also difficult: paying my bills when I have no income. I know opportunities will present themselves once I'm licensed but...any ideas as to what I can do to make money for a few months in the interim? So far it's babysitting and the food service industry... but is there anything even slightly social service-related I can do part-time? Or just easy, temporary gigs? Get rich quick schemes? Thanks all!

How to get social work jobs in Colorado

What is the best way to find Social Work employment in Colorado? What are some different mental health agencies that are hiring? I am trying to move to Colorado by the end of the year and am a licensed social worker. I have started to get my appliations/resume together, but could use any useful information at all that could help me find a job. I guess I am not too interested in the Denver area, but would like to be in the range from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction, and as far down as Durango. I would love to live directly in Gunnison, CO if at all possible...but thats a small town. Thanks...

LCSW or Ph. D in Psychology?

I'm currently completing a B.A. in Psychology with the intentions of becoming a practicing therapist (mental heath, family, individual, children). Here's my question: the path to practice as a therapist diverges. I can get a Masters of Social Work in two years following my undergrad, but in order to be able to practice, I would need to get my license, which would require typically another 2 years of supervision. I could work, by at a low salary. The other path would be to following up the Undergraduate degree with a Masters in Psy and then a Ph.D. Any thoughts?

Types of part time jobs for a psychology student before applying to grad school

I'm presently completing a B.A. on Psychology (via distance learning) with the intentions of continuing towards a Masters in Clinical Social Work. I have a couple of questions: 1) I'm 42 years old and have done back to school as a career changer. I have a wife and daughter and need to work part time while I'm a full time student. Does anyone have any suggestions for work which might help with graduate schools looking at both my academic and work background? All of my previous work experience involves working with people, but not much similar to work a therapist would be engaged in (worked for last 8 years as a talent agent) 2) Does anyone know which cities offer the greatest potential for work as a clinical social worker as I hope to eventually open a private practice, but will work in hospital or mental health facility while gaining experience?
