EmploymentFilter: I'm leaving a professional position tomorrow after eight months and the requisite two weeks' notice. It hasn't been a particularly good match for me (skills, interests, etc...) but my boss has nevertheless been a good guy to work for and has both tried to find ways to use my background and skills, and to give me opportunities to learn more. Once, in passing, he mentioned a bottle of whisky he was about to try. Should I get him one to say "thanks," since I don't think there are any alcohol sensitivity issues?

How much notice should I give? I like my job and my boss, but I've been accepted to grad school. My company has a habit of procrastinating on hiring new people (a month or more), but I have a lot of responsibilities that will need to be taken over immediately. It might even be beneficial for someone to take over the week before I leave, so I can give them some training. Should I stick with the traditional two weeks, or give them a little more leeway?

What is the etiquette for putting future employment on your resume? I will be a summer associate for a law firm between May and August, but am circulating my resume to other employers in anticipation of the interview process next fall. Is it acceptable to put "[Law Firm] - Summer Associate, May 2004 - August 2004" on a resume that you are handing out today?
