How can I convert a Word document to a pdf while keeping the margins the same width? We are working on a 5 MB Word document, created with Word 2003 on a PC running Windows XP. The margins must be 1 inch wide. When we convert it to pdf, the right hand margin becomes 1.25 inches wide, and random phrases become boldface. We've tried Acrobat 8 and a freeware converter (dopdf).

I have a macro that takes an un-styled document, and tries to put text into the right styles based on what its formatting is. But, if the document already has some scheme of styles, the macro doesn't work very well. So, I would like to transform a Word document into an un-styled version of itself-- but one that retains ALL of the original formatting (italics, small caps, font size, spacing). What would be the most correct way to do this? I have Word 2003 (which the macro needs) and 2007, as well as Word 2008 for Mac. Also-- HTML doesn't work, as it doesn't retain small caps.

Hotrodding MS Word: I'm finding myself wishing MS Word had a few features that I hope might be available as add-ons somewhere (or failing that, personal tips/tricks). One would be something to tell you how many times you are using individual words in a document (like an enhanced word count), so you can avoid overdoing it. For example: "You used 'cat' 5 times and 'kitty' 3 times." Another would be some way to tag text so that no matter how much you mix it up down the road (as in taking notes and turning them into written text), you will always be able to tell what source each fact/quote/etc came from. Sort of like footnotes, but better, and ideally transferrable from file to file. Any ideas?

My office computer operates Windows XP with Word 2000. (I'm a Mac person at home so no lectures please...) About once a week or so, a Word doc will freeze up on me forcing me to hit the good old Ctrl+Alt+Del and End Task. I would say 50% of the time when I open Word again, the document I was working on comes up as a recovered document (phew!). The other 50% of the time, I open Word and... no recovered document (!!!). What gives? Why the discrepancy? How can I guarantee that a recovered document will come up all the time and not just when the computer feels like it? Aside from searching through a million temp files, is there an easy way to get the version I was working on back if it doesn't come up automatically? (Yes, I save as often as I can, but I'm only human.) Sorry if this has been answered before... I searched for a similar post, but didn't find one. Thank you!

im developing a *low key* department site for the company intranet. We've decided that ill write a simple menu that loads a word document into the facing frame for each menu item - this way i don't have to write any SQL or an interface for keeping the performance data up to date (the department employees will simply keep the word files up to date)

now the question - is there anyway to display a word document as a webpage (meaning: without the rulers and such along the sides and top)?

Ack! Why does Microsoft Word move a footnote to the page following the page where the footnote is inserted (e.g. footnote reference in text is on p.14, footnote itself appears on p. 15)? Or spread the footnote across the bottom of two successive pages? It's nothing to do with (a) inserting the footnote ref near the bottom of the page, or (b) having large amounts of existing footnote text on that page. There's plenty of room for the footnote, it just goes on the next page. Thanks!
