Hello, MeFi! I was at a class reunion last weekend where some photos were uploaded to Facebook. Urgh. I look horrible. I am not aging gracefully. I am shocked at how much I've changed in just a couple of years and am saddened that I'm now looking "my age" - late 40s. Sex is often touted as beneficial for one's health. And is it primarily the orgasm that's supposedly healthful, or even sex sans orgasm?

I'm shortly scheduled to have a hysterectomy. It's not going to be abdominal, so I don't have to worry about taking care of sutures, but I want to know how I should prepare: what physical comforts I should have on hand, dietary staples, recovery strategies, and resources and guides I should consult prior to this. For the first time in long life experience, I have a girlfriend who is very stinky "down there". What to do? [more inside]
I have had irregular, painful menstrual cycles from the age of 14, but in my 20s they basically became inverse periods: a few days of not bleeding, with most at a low, constant flow, and a few like a normal cycle. When it’s bad, I feel like I have a constant low-grade flu, with fatigue, muscle ache, mental fogginess, and wild moods of sadness and anger. Several pelvic exams and sonograms have shown no fibroids nor anything anatomical that should be causing this. I’ve tried birth control pills (that caused weight gain and nausea, even at low doses), and the ring and the patch, which didn't help at all. I spent a few years on Norplant with no cycle at all, but terrible problems with weight gain that I am still struggling with. The only product I have had luck with was Lunelle, which is no longer available in the US. Has anyone else ever dealt with this and found something that worked? I’ve seen many gynecologists over the years and none have an answer. I'm in my early 30s now and seriously considering a hysterectomy because I can't live like this anymore.

I've gotten conflicting answers from physicians, teachers, and Google searches so I come to you for anecdotal evidence: Is it really dangerous for menstruating women to practice inverted yoga postures? Has anyone you know ever suffered negative consequences from practicing inversions during her period?
