Where can I find excellent movie discussion, analysis, reviews, dissection, etc by women? I feel like I have a stable of great film-related youtubers, writers, and podcasters that I enjoy, but they are largely male -- I'd love to discover more current work from women in this area. Thank you!
I'd like to dabble more in graphic novels and comics for "grown ups". I like Julia Wertz and Allie Brosh--so basically I'm looking for stuff that is kinda gritty yet also kinda funny, preferably with a female's point of view. Who else might I enjoy? [more inside]

I'm working on writing and shooting a story of a female fighter for a film competition. Unfortunately, all the fighters I know, whether in mma or boxing, are all guys. Obviously, women also go to the gyms around me but not that many compete. And my friends weren't close to any female fighters. They offer some insight but I'd rather talk with a woman who has been in the ring or interested in competing amateur or otherwise, so at the very least I don't create a story that rings false. Any ideas about how to get in touch with women who do competitive boxing/mma? [more inside]

My daughter is 8 and she loves her bedtime stories, but she doesn't want to be read to, she would rather we recite a story out loud while sitting in the dark. Well yesterday my imagination ran out so I told her the story of Mata Hari as best I knew it and she loved it! [more inside]

I have a problem buying clothes online. I'm in an in-between point in my fashion life: I'm not dressing like an undergraduate, but I haven't reached the LL Bean stage in my life either, and I don't have an office job that requires wearing business casual. Where do you all shop online? [more inside]

I am working on diversifying my pop culture experience and am feeling limited by what Netflix thinks I should watch. Please recommend some of your favorite movies, TV shows, and documentaries streaming on Netflix that would help me expand my pop culture diet - especially if they are directed by/acted by/about women, people of color, and people outside the upper middle class New York/LA milieu.

Reading this thread made me realize that I am completely unaware of the current state of SF/F. Who are some female SF/F authors from the last 15 years that you would recommend? [more inside]
I'm writing about feminism and gaming on the internet. I'm a woman. I know that if I gain any reasonable amount of success, it'll probably come with death threats and hacking attempts and doxxing and the like. What should I do now, while very few people are reading me, to protect myself? [more inside]
I'm a woman in science. I recently finished my Ph.D in Chemistry, and, after getting burnt-out on the academic track, I've gotten a job in a small startup synthesizing new materials for energy purposes. I've been told to find a "female mentor" to help me navigate the startup/industry world of chemistry. But how do I find a female mentor? Where do I look? What do I look for? [more inside]
I am a woman whose experience in technology is eerily similar to that of the women in these two articles. I am at a breaking point. But rather than leave the field, I would like to shift employment so that I'm working at exclusively women-led or women-run companies. Can anyone provide some ideas for potential places to apply for full-time employment? [more inside]

I'm interviewing for jobs a few months out from having a baby and I'm at a loss for what to wear. I could use suggestions for a few clothing items to buy to interview in now that I have some in-person interviews, without having to buy a new outfit for every interview or spending a lot of money on clothes that won't fit for very long. My 4yr old daughter recently dismissed super hero stuff as 'for boys'. I showed her a photo of the recent reimagining of Thor as a woman and she was very impressed. Can you recommend any comics/cartoons etc suitable for her age with women super heroes? Bonus points if in spanish. Since I haven't really kept up with the literature, please assume that I don't even know the basics)

Boss is proposing that I accumulate EDO (extra) time and use it to make up time caring my my daughter when she's sick. He says the average days off (family care +personal sick days) at our company is 5 and I'm too far beyond that ( 9 total out of an entitlement of 3 family care + 9 personal sick days). I think he is going to bring it up again today. Is this a fair and reasonable request? [more inside]

Anti-feminists seem to often use the word "female" in the noun form, in places where people would ordinarily just use "women." (I don't want to spend a lot of time hunting up evidence of this, but here are some examples. There's also this and this.) I'm curious to know how/why this became a thing -- for example, I've wondered if it has something to do with military or police usage, because those are the only places I've previously noticed women being referred to as females. Does anybody know?
I need some examples of organisations using trans*inclusive language in interesting and welcoming ways - particularly on the web and on social media. When I need to communicate that a group is open to women and trans* people, but not cisgender dudes, I feel like I'm using the same clunky phrases every damn time. Help me find new ways to say it without tying myself in linguistic knots. [more inside]
At the ripe old age of 37, I've decided I'd like to look more put together and explore wearing clothes that aren't my usual uniform of "jeans, add t-shirt; in case of winter, add sweaters." But there are always snowflakes. [more inside]

Everyone knows about the controversy around the exploration of sexism in gaming. I've (foolishly?) waded into the fray, and I am having a really hard time finding any stats regarding what percentage of female characters die violent deaths vs. male characters. I do not want to argue without solid facts. Anyone know if this data exists? Thanks!
