Outlook Mobile not so good.

I would like tips on working well with Outlook Mobile and gmail. My primary concern is getting Outlook to download all messages, not just the inbox. I have a WM6 phone and use Outlook Mobile to read my gmail via IMAP. Most advice online says this setup is best. There is a java gmail app, but it isn't integrated and is said to be lacking in features.

However, it just doesn't work ... smoothly. Any tips?

1. Outlook will only download messages in the inbox. If gmail filters a message so that it skips the inbox, it will never reach my phone.

2. If I move a message to a folder in Outlook, then on the next update gmail will tag it, move it out of the inbox, and then it will disappear from my phone. This is a huge problem.

3. In Outlook, I have folders for each of my tags, and [Gmail] folders for things like Sent Mail, Drafts, and Starred, but there is nothing in any of them.

Now that I typed it all out, I can see the root of my problem is getting Outlook Mobile to download all messages, not just the inbox. Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

I'm trying to share my PC's net connection with my BT phone, not the other way around

How do I share my computer's (wired) Internet connection with a smartphone, over bluetooth? That's PC->BT->phone, not phone-as-modem->PC. I've got a Motorola Q9h (AT&T) WM6 smartphone, which is my work PDA and my personal phone.
It's great on the smart, as a nifty PDA; but it's not so hot on the phone - the call quality is bad.

I can just swap out the SIM to a better phone-phone and cancel the data plan that made it a good PDA.

What I'd like to do is keep using the Q9h as my work PDA - but the only way it would be functional (for my uses) is if I could get Internet on it through some other means when I'm in the office and at my house.

The Q9h does not appear to have WiFi (unless there's some hack I haven't found?), and the Micro-SD WiFi card is still a dream.

So I thought I'd look into a Bluetooth PAN to share the internet connection from my PC with my phone. But all the HowTos I'm finding are for doing it the other way - sharing the phone's mobile data connection with a non-connected laptop = "tethering".

How do I do the opposite - share a PC's internet connection over bluetooth and access it via a Windows Mobile smartphone?

Anyone done this?

Miro, Miro, on my phone

How to I find the proper settings for recoding video to play on my Smartphone? So I love Miro. But I have a chronic backlog of videos to watch, since I'm not at my computer to watch them. I'd like to recode them so I can watch them on my smartphone. But I can't figure out the proper settings to get them to play. I'd also like to do the same with the occasional DVD rip.

In the past, I have made DVD rips made using Handbrake work on a Palm TX with TCMP, but I haven't had success yet with the following combination:

Phone: AT&T Q9h global :
Display Type: LCD (Color TFT/TFD)
Resolution: 320 x 240 pixels (QVGA)
Colors: 65,536 (16-bit)
Media Player: = whatever the mobile (WM6) version of Windows Media Player is.

Supported Formats: wmv, wma, mp3, mpeg4, h263, h264, real audio, real video, aac

Computer: G4 running OSX, have Handbrake and ffmpegX

Video: various types: .flv, mp4, m4a, m4v.

The most success I've gotten was to get sound, but no video.

Can anyone give me any tips for the proper codec/settings?

Bonus for being able to do this in a batch, or automate it, so I can do a daily/weekly "dump + convert" routine.

PocketPC Security Software

Looking for Windows Mobile 6 security software for a phone running Windows Mobile Professional. Especially looking for something that will auto-encrypt or auto-delete PIM databases after a number of incorrect password attempts. I'm looking for software that will lock the screen and buttons when the PDA is turned on, and require a password, either an on-screen PIN or button entry - I don't want to have to get my stylus out to check my email.

I would also like a poison pill where the system would hard reset after a number of password failures, or failing that at the very least it would autodelete the internal memory and PIM data. It would also be great if such a program had an OEM install version so I could put it directly on the firmware of my PDA when flashing a new ROM, but that's more wishful thinking than an actual requirment.

I would be willing to pay for this software, but cheaper is better and free is best.

Thanks!

Is there a way to use a google calendar and outlook exchange without completely mixing the two and can they be synced differently on different computers?

Is there a way to use a google calendar and outlook exchange without completely mixing the two and can they be synced differently on different computers? I have a work computer and a home computer (both Windows XP). At home I use google calendar. At work they use outlook exchange. I am now in the market for a PDA phone. I am looking at both WM6 Pro and Palm. I will probably end up with the palm but I am not sure at the moment. (I have unlimited data on my phone if that makes a difference.) Ok... those are all the background details.

Here is the question: I want the PDA to only partially sync with my work computer and completely sync with my home computer. Meaning I want my calendar/schedule from work to upload to the PDA but I don't want my personal address book or other information to be saved to the work computer. At the same time, when I sync at home, I want my personal calendar on the PDA also. I want both calendars to be visible on the PDA but when I go back and sync it at work, I don't want my personal calendar to be synced with my office computer. Is there a way to do this? Can calendars be kept separately? Also, to do this, is it preferable to use WM over Palm OS or vice versa?

Can I stream music to my WM6 smartphone?

Are there any services that will stream my music collection to my WM6 smartphone? I know there are a bunch of services out there that stream your music collection "anywhere," but I don't know if there are any that will stream to my phone. I love my iPod, but carrying a smartphone AND an iPod is getting to be a bit much. I'd like to be able to just carry the phone, if possible.

Smartphone Scrambler?

Is there any program released for Windows Mobile Smartphone (WM5/WM6) that will dynamically scramble my voice in a call? Not looking for call encryption, but the effect in spy and cop movies (most recently, the Departed), where the caller's voice is garbled and robotic, but still intelligible. If not, are there any other programs that do anything remotely similar (or any programs that are just interesting in general)? I have a T-Mobile Dash upgraded to WM6, but any WM5/6 Smartphone programs should work.

Suggest software for a new Pocket PC!

I need software for my new PocketPC. What do you use?

I'm an experienced Pocket PC/Windows Mobile user. I have a new Sprint Mogul (to replace my PPC-6700), and I want to get some good software on there. 1. I'd like some kind of software that will check my Gmail for me automatically on a schedule. Does this exist?
2. Games. I want some. I like Bejewelled, but it's not free. Can you recommend good, free ones?
3. Utilities. I love 'em. Like a good PocketPC backup solution? Free? Tell me.
4. Has anyone seen a recent NES/SNES Emu for PPC? I have PocketNES, but it never worked quite right.
5. Window manager/app closer. I used to like one, but it's not good with the WM os's.

Finally, if there's any software I missed above, tell me. What do you love to use on your PocketPC?
