Wisdom teeth partially left in (or my molars are very sharp)

I had my wisdom teeth out 15 years ago and I've always thought my back molars felt sharp or like there was some jagged tooth behind my molars. I perpetually forget to do my dentist about it but aren't sure if they would see left over wisdom teeth bits in an x-ray or visual exam. [more inside]

What's the big deal about followups?

I just had my wisdom teeth taken out. They told me that there would be a followup appointment, but didn't bother to schedule it. Their office has the WACKIEST hours - it's hard to even get them on the phone. I've got a weird schedule with school. It doesn't seem worth the effort to try to schedule a followup appointment. Is it really that important, or can i safely skip it if everything feels fine?

My son (age 20) has one impacted and one soon-to-be-impacted bottom wisdom tooth so they need to come out. His top wisdom teeth have come in fine. Dentist recommends pulling all four. Why can't he keep his top teeth?

Should I have my wisdom teeth extracted?

All of my wisdom teeth are impacted. I only have one that's even slightly erupted, but the rest never erupted at all. My old dentist used to recommend having them pulled, and now my new dentist also recommended extraction after I had problems with my slightly erupted wisdom tooth, i.e. gum swelling and pain due to a food particle getting stuck in the gums. Pre-op antibiotics, yay or nay?

I'm getting all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out tomorrow. In a study done in 2007, one dose of pre-op antibiotics has been shown to lower infection rates by 50%, and might do more good than several days of antibiotics post-op. My oral surgeon's office apparently does not follow that practice. Is there any danger in me taking one of the doses of amoxicillin that has already been prescribed for this procedure the night before? [more inside]

never trust anyone with bad teeth

I have a carny mouth. Should I get dental insurance before I decide to take care of it? No pain, but several cavities and a few teeth (including two wisdom teeth) have been rotting and falling apart for several years. 4-6 years ago, a dental school said that it would cost 4-5 thousand dollars and take 3-4 visits to fix. That doesn't include getting them whitened or anything cosmetic. Today, one of my molars broke in half and I swallowed it with some wasabi trail mix. That tooth only had a little speck of a cavity yesterday. [more inside]

Should I set these wisdom teeth clots free?

WisdomTeethFilter: I had my bottom two out yesterday afternoon. After changing the gauze the first time, I noticed I had little stringy, thin tissues hanging from each hole. I called my surgeon, who said losing these initial clots was normal and not dry socket. Problem is, they haven't dissolved or broken off like I hoped. I'm worried they'll end up pulling up my real clots out. So, should I cut them? Pull them? Leave 'em be? [more inside]

Extracting Wisdom

Extracting Wisdom: I've been putting it dodging it for years, but it's looking (and feeling) like I'm going to have to get my wisdom teeth pulled. I do have insurance, but I have to go to a specific provider - a provider I've never actually been to before. Any advice on questions I should ask or things I should look for? Is one oral surgeon as good as another or should I shop around and/or pay extra if needed?
