I've been watching Archer recently, and they had an episode with the super cliched "which wire to cut" scene. This made me wonder, is there any actual real world precedent for cutting a single wire to defuse a bomb (with every other wire resulting in death), or is this entirely a fictional scenario?

My aunt is dying of cancer, and I'd like to help her relive a happy memory. Sometime in the late 80s, we made wire flowers and dipped them in a strong smelling plastic (?) that hardened into clear colored panes. Neither of us can remember what it was called or very many specifics beyond that. It came in a can and we dipped the wire loops directly into it. It hardened relatively hard, and took maybe overnight to cure. What was it? Where can I get some? [more inside]

I have Euros in an ICBC account in China, I don't have online banking setup, and I signed, I have signed up for xe.com which didn't help, NYC has an ICBC branch, but I called and they said they can't access my Euros for me (is that true?)
What are my options? is there anyway I can get my money without physically travelling to china?
I have trusted friends in China, maybe I can add someone to my account from here? or power of attorney? or close my account and have them send me the money to america? any ideas are apreciated

How do I wire my new bathroom exhaust fan? The old fan has three functions (fan, light, nightlight) and therefore connects to a triple switch on the wall. It also means that there are two runs of wire to it. The new fan has only two functions (fan, light) and therefore only needs one run of wire. How do I wire this thing up; what do I do with the extra run of wire? [more inside]

Song from the Wire, season 1 episode 6. Here's a Youtube

"Respect the Nubians" by Positive Black Soul, that comes after. It's not on the soundtrack disc. There are a lot of google hits for people looking for it
but no one has found it. Do you know it?

Can I port my existing AT&T Wireless cell phone number to a new Comcast Digital Voice land line account?
The 1-800-Comcast customer support rep. said no, but the FCC says
"you can switch telephone service providers, including interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers, and keep your existing phone number".
What's the final verdict? Anyone have experience with this?

I am racking my brain over this one. Both Google and IMDB are failing me. In what movie or TV show does a character say the following quote (might not be the exact words):
"Can you speak a little louder, only this time into my LAPEL?"
See, the character is wearing a wire, and he's not very bright.
Help me figure this one out!

I bought one of these
xlr connectors to hook up to a video light I have. However, I needed to change the connector on one end to a set of spade terminals. Unfortunately, I can't figure out which wire coming from the XLR connector is the positive one. The only thing I have to go on is that one of the wires has writing and a dashed line imprinted on it. Does that tell me something about its polarity? I also tried looking at XLR pinouts online, but they all seem to be different. I know that the wire with the writing on it is going to pin 1.

Our home builder installed cat6 network cable for me as a favor, but now that we've moved in, a cable tester now reports it as shorting out. Wires 5&6 are shorting. I guess they treated the cable too roughly. Does anyone have any advice for me on using the old cable to pull new cable through the walls to the second floor? If I was to install a messenger cable for future pulls at the same time, what should I use for that? [more inside]
