I come from California and this year will be the first winter I have to deal with in Wisconsin. I did live in Baltimore a while back, but I expect this winter to be somewhat more severe. I'm looking to purchase a warmer and better fitting jacket for this winter. While I won't be doing intense skiing/hiking outdoors, I will be walking around for 30-45min, mainly to get to work and just check out the snowy weather. More details... [more inside]
I want to replace my winter coat and have some very picky requirements. Here they are, with the most important ones first: [more inside]
My old pea coat has finally been laid to rest. After last year's brutal winter, I was thinking of upgrading to something a little warmer. But I'd also like it to be something I can wear with business attire, so I'm leaning towards something like a wool overcoat. Can you name some brands that have quality (i.e. warm) women's winter jackets? [more inside]
I'm in the market for a versatile men's winter jacket for outdoor activities such as hiking, running, etc that I can also wear out on the town without looking silly. I found a few on Cyber Monday that I really liked, but all of them were out of stock for my size/preferred color. I don't want to pay list price. How can I find a decent deal after the two biggest sales of the year are over? I'm looking for a quality jacket that is hopefully discounted a fair amount. [more inside]
I love to walk to and from work, all year long, and this requires a warm coat. My current coat doesn't keep me as reliably toasty as I'd like. I want something as warm as a Canada Goose coat, but I don't want that brand - i want something that every second person (in toronto) isn't already wearing, and that is (if possible) slightly more urban/stylish/flattering, and less sporty/functional looking. In particular, i really don't want a big logo/badge on it, as all Canada Goose coats do. I absolutely want a down-filled coat, though. (I've never seen a wool coat that is anywhere near as warm as down.) Bonus points for something available at a retail store in Toronto (or possibly NYC, which i visit occasionally), and that costs $700 or less.
I've spent my entire life (with little exception) between Houston and Atlanta, latitudinally speaking, and moved to Seattle this summer. I don't really know what I'm supposed to be wearing to best handle the winter. [more inside]
I read this a LONG time ago, a jacket where you could snap ur wrist (or some other hand geuster/movement) and it cause ur phone (stored in the sleeve) to drop right into ur hand. It was awesome if slightly risky and I'd like to take a look at it again. Anyone know of it? Or something similar?

For this winter, I want an inexpensive ($100 or so) men's jacket that is light and warm, even in really cold conditions. Jacket, not a coat... [more inside]

I've lived in Boston 7 years now but never obtained proper cold weather attire, struggling along with the coat I brought from California and a cheap one I found here when I couldn't tolerate the California one anymore. Well, no more. This year I'm going to do it right. I turn to Ask MeFi because I'm hopelessly confused by the variety of options out there. [more inside]
