Have you ever participated in a winery's grape crush? Or do you know what that entails? What happens at the winery? How hard is the work? How long does it take? Tell me what you know about crush!

Looking for wine tasting recommendations in the Finger Lakes region of New York. I'll be spending a long day up there in late May and would like recommendations for wineries worth visiting. Preferences are for dark and dirty reds, but I like a good riesling, too. I know very little about the area and the wine, so please suggest away!

I'm considering taking a 4-day weekend trip out to California's North Coast to do some winery-hopping and hiking. Is this a mistake? My wife has vacation time the first couple weekends of December. Is it going to be too cold? Are the wineries even open this time of year?

Can anyone recommend a particular New York State winery? I'm sorting through them all now, and there are so many! I would prefer one with a bed and breakfast accomodation either on site (do they do that?) or quite nearby. Attractions nearby would preferrably also lean towards nature or museums rather than shopping.
