What wierd thing happened while creating Windows 7 restore disks?

A friend has a new Asus Essentio CM5671. He first transferred his data files to the new machine. Then, while trying to create the Windows 7 restore disks, he appears to have somehow reset the computer to its factory state, restoring all the crapware that had been removed and obliterating his documents and data. Any idea how he may have done this and how he can un-do it?

Laptop 1 or Laptop 2?

Buying a new laptop, I have worked down to 2 choices. One has Win7 (32-bit) and 4gb DDR2 ram, the other has Win7 (64-bit) with 3gb DDR3 ram. Same price. I don't really know enough about the difference between 32/64bit or DDR2/3 to make a decision. Can you explain the difference and offer advice as to which is best. [more inside]

The Pink Screen of Death?

OK, I've almost given up. I try to connect my HP G60 laptop (Windows 7) to my Olevia (I know) HDTV and the TV screen wants to be magenta (pink!). Not totally pink, just the colored bits. The white parts stay white. I'm using a 6-foot HDMI cable. I have had a proper picture in the past, but I cannot for the life of me figure out a stable combination of settings. Anybody else experience that? Any solution to the pinkness?

Suggestions on how to make a Lexar card reader play nicely with Win 7?

Is there anything to be done with a 5+ year old Lexar USB 2.0 Multi-card reader which I have just discovered is incompatible with Windows 7? Neither Microsoft nor Lexar seem to have bothered to provide drivers for this item. I only use it to transfer pictures from an XD card in an even older Fuji Finepix camera. Having to buy a new reader would be annoying; having to buy a new camera and reader will really piss me off if it comes to that.

What am I missing here, to get this thing fired up and online?

I bought a new laptop today, an inexpensive Compaq. I've not opened the box yet, don't want to run the thing without a decent anti-virus anti-malware etc and etc, on the machine and operative -- I figure I'll use my existing puter to download the latest AVG onto a USB stick and install it onto the Compaq before getting online. Also intend to run Decrapifer software and also CCleaner to get all the gunk off the machine that I can. Question: What else do I need to do to fire up this Windows 7 machine, if anything? Also -- once cleaned up, I'd like to image the drive to a USB drive I've got, that USB drive came with proprietary software and I'm sure that'd be fine, but do you have any preference as to what drive imaging (freeware) software to use? Best choices for a web developer's Windows 7 laptop

Web designer-person looking for a new computer by the end of next week (definitely Windows 7, probably 64bit, probably on a laptop). I want a machine that should serve me well as my home office mainstay for the next 5 years, I want to pay as little as reasonably possible, and I have to get this done before the end of next week. My big question: how do I get the best bang for the buck when it comes to choosing the kind of chip, RAM, hard drive speed, dedicated video memory, and any other factors I've failed to list?
