What the heck is OpenOffice.fm, and did this download damage my friend's computer? [more inside]
Recently, my computer has decided to be very particular about what it will allow to connect to the internet. Some programs, like uTorrent and Filezilla, can connect fine and have no problems. But things like self-updaters and Flash-based uploading cannot connect. The same thing happens on two different internet connections on two different wireless networks whose configurations have not been changed since before this started (I do not have a wired network to test). I have not made any significant changes to my computer since before this started. I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. What could be causing the problem? How can I fix it? What caused the problem in the first place? [more inside]

How to customize a default user profile in Windows 7. Part of a continuing SteadyState-replacement saga.
I'm trying to customize a default user profile in Windows 7 professional, with the intent of using it to create a mandatory profile. Microsoft requires the use of Sysprep. Windows7 issue: I can't install new programs because my computer is trying to install Outlook (I don't even want Outlook!) My wireless router's DNS server is always kinda borked for some reason. Google's DNS works great. However, when I connect from campus, Google DNS doesn't work, but the campus DNS servers are fine with me. Is there any way I can tell my Windows 7 computer with one wireless adapter to use different settings for this depending on what wireless network I'm on? (The home DNS does return results, it just periodically starts thinking that Google is Yahoo, Sourceforge is Bing, other such weirdness.)

About two days ago my Windows 7 HP TouchSmart 610 locked up doing I don't remember what and I had to "hard" reboot it (turn off and back on without properly closing it). The main problem that has surfaced since then is my iTunes library can't "locate" any of my songs. If you are an iTunes user, you've probably seen this before when you try to play a certain song and an error window pops up saying "The song blah blah could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" iTunes gurus I need your help! More follows... [more inside]

I'm on a company provided Windows 7 laptop. Here's what I know: When using the "Windows Classic" Theme (right click on desktop>personalize>select "Windows Classic" theme), Windows Explorer does NOT hang/hourglass for ~30 seconds when accessing files/navigating folders. All clicks to save files, navigate through local and distributed files (our MyDocs folder is stored on the Company's distributed file system), etc., are immediately responsive. When using ANY other theme, clicking on navigation of files (local and DFS, even when not connected to the company network) hangs for 10-30 seconds. What gives? Do all of the themes (minus the "Classic" theme) have some sort of "network call" that look through My Docs (which is technically on the DFS/my company's servers, that has a 30 timeout if the network doesn't respond?) Any ideas how to fix this (change a registry setting, ask the company IT team to make a change to a group policy setting, etc.)? What's so special about the "Windows Classic" theme? It's ugly, but it saves me 30 seconds every time I touch a file, open windows explorer, etc. Thanks in advance!
I'm trying to hotlink a button to take in-game screenshots on my Macbook Pro with Boot Camp running Windows 7. But every application I try seems to miss the game playing entirely! It shows the desktop and other running applications and not the game at all. I've tried MWSnap 3, Screenshot Utility 1.0, and Screenshot Pilot. They all failed. How do I take screenshots of this video game, before I lose my mind?
I need to make about 3-4 different jpeg slideshows that can be burned to a DVD. Nothing fancy, but it would be nice to add text to the images ( I have Photoshop, so that's not critical), and be able to control the speed (very critical) to maybe 30 seconds per slide/jpeg. Total images would be less than 50. Autoplay a plus. I am using Windows 7, and love simple to use free stuff, but would pay 50-100 if it is worth it. What am I looking for?
I have a small simple 16 bit windows application that I need access to from a couple dozen Windows 7 64 bit computers. Unfortunately we lost some of the source code so recompiling it is not in the cards any time soon. Is there a way I can host this app on something like Amazon AWS and give all these users access to run the app via a browser or some other method? Installing VM lite or the windows virtual pc is not an option unfortunately. These users would need access to this program concurrently. The VMWare solutions are far too expensive and the VMLite product that might help we won't be out for some time. Thank you for reading my post. Have a great one.
