Fraking-Touchpad filter: My Dell Inspiron Touchpad completely ceased to work at all last night. Me and the Dell tech guy ran some diagnostics, and ascertained that it is NOT a hardware problem, it is an OS problem (I have Windows 7). He says my only option (aside from getting a external mouse and using that instead) is to wipe the whole OS and start over. Really?

I use Windows 7 Media Center to timeshift basketball games and it works fine, except that after a commercial break where there is a bright white commercial, the brightness is shifted down, and the subsequent footage is too dark. This happens at record time but I'm not sure exactly what is causing it or how to disable. My capture card is an ati tv wonder 600 pci.

There was a solution for XP

My home-made HTPC running Windows 7 shuts down without warning, first after prolonged use playing HD (720) videos with VLC. Then it stopped twenty minutes into an episode, and switching to Media Player Classic seemed to be the answer. Then the computer shut down after about 20 minutes of simply being idle. And there's never a "sudden shutdown" error message when I reboot. How do I diagnose this, or what could be wrong?

Recently, my computer has decided to be very particular about what it will allow to connect to the internet. Some programs, like uTorrent and Filezilla, can connect fine and have no problems. But things like self-updaters and Flash-based uploading cannot connect. The same thing happens on two different internet connections on two different wireless networks whose configurations have not been changed since before this started (I do not have a wired network to test). I have not made any significant changes to my computer since before this started. I'm running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. What could be causing the problem? How can I fix it? What caused the problem in the first place?

My wireless router's DNS server is always kinda borked for some reason. Google's DNS works great. However, when I connect from campus, Google DNS doesn't work, but the campus DNS servers are fine with me. Is there any way I can tell my Windows 7 computer with one wireless adapter to use different settings for this depending on what wireless network I'm on? (The home DNS does return results, it just periodically starts thinking that Google is Yahoo, Sourceforge is Bing, other such weirdness.)

About two days ago my Windows 7 HP TouchSmart 610 locked up doing I don't remember what and I had to "hard" reboot it (turn off and back on without properly closing it). The main problem that has surfaced since then is my iTunes library can't "locate" any of my songs. If you are an iTunes user, you've probably seen this before when you try to play a certain song and an error window pops up saying "The song blah blah could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" iTunes gurus I need your help! More follows...
