I have about 500GB of files (mostly photos and music) on my iMac that I want to move to a Windows laptop. I need to use an external drive to copy them. Can I copy the Mac files onto my external drive via my iMac's bootcamp Windows partition to avoid file-type compatibility problems? [more inside]
I used to use Truecrypt to encrypt little enclosures so I wouldn't have to worry about my files so much when I, say, put them on a USB stick or backed them up to the cloud. There was a whole... thing with Truecrypt and now it's hard to say if I should use it anymore. Is there another program that's going to work well for this purpose? [more inside]
I've been tasked to find a solution for the following: We make software for different kinds of machines. The machines are all controlled from Windows PCs connected to each machine individually. Every developer who has to test something copies their newly built software on a flash drive, walks out to the lab, makes a backup of what was running on the PC connected to that particular machine, puts in their own software, runs the tests, and in the end copies everything back like it was before. I bought a Belkin Easy Transfer USB Cable for Windows 7 thinking it would act much like a direct crossover cable connection would. Instead, it only seems to let me transfer the files and folders needed to set up your old Windows profile on a new copy of Windows, rather than giving me access to all files, folders and partitions, which is what I need. Is there a hack to get this cable to do what I want it to do?

Hi AskMeFi. Can someone tell me how to combine 350 text files into one large text file so that the original filenames and dates are included above (or below) each entry? I have a portable usb hard drive that I use for keeping all my documents / backups on. Windows seems to love using this drive for everything, for example I am installing IE7 from windows update, and it is using the drive to hold all the temporary files during the install. Because of this the drive is always in use and I can never eject it. [more inside]

Windows XP search improvement: suggestions for how to use the built-in search more efficiently, or for search programs to replace it
I need a search tool replacement for the built-in windows XP search, or suggestions for it. I have a lot of files on different drives in different directories (C:\AA F:\BB ...) and I when I want to find a specific file that I know is in one of those directories, I have to select and search each directory one at a time. (searching all folders on all drives would take too long.) Anyway to make this quicker?
