How would a spaceship be protected from solar wind and deterioration?

Once we develop the technology of manned, long-term space travel (such as star trek, for example), how would our spaceships hulls and housing be protected from things such as solar wind, other "energy debris", and deterioration? [more inside]

I'm a guy. My hair is getting longer, and it's windy. Help!

I'm a mid-20's guy who often gets told that I look better with longer hair. Unfortunately, I'm terrible at styling so I usually stick with shorter lengths. Lately, I've been trying to grow the 'do out a bit. Although I am able to leave the house looking alright, if the wind is blowing I am liable to end up looking like a crazy person within moments. Please share with me advice on how to tame my hair into submission! [more inside]

Tennants rights re: storm broken window.

Yesterday I left 2 apartment windows cranked partially open and, in the heavy winds later that evening, they broke. There is a possibility my landlord could try and charge us for replacing them (~$175 ea). Help me prep in case it goes that way. Oakland, CA. [more inside]

Lights on wind turbines - all in sync, but how?

The Biglow Canyon Wind Farm in Oregon, south of the Columbia River, has around 200 wind turbines operating. A while ago I drove past this installation at night time and I noticed that all the lights on top of the turbines - to indicate their presence to aircrafts, no doubt - were blinking in a totally synchronized manner. How is that possible? [more inside]

So wait. People can hold farts in?!?

I have made it to middle age without realizing that other people are capable of holding in their flatulence until a time and location where it can be expelled without offending greater society. My body does not work this way. After a small window of warning, they just. Come. Out. Am I a freak of nature? How did my bowels never learn this marvelous trick? [more inside]

Where can I go to enjoy wind blowing through trees?

My love takes great pleasure in wind blowing through trees, preferably rustling, leafy, big trees. Looking for vacation spots where 1) there are guaranteed trees and highly likely wind, and 2) we can get a warm, toasty room with a great view of said trees. Other than those two criteria, it can be anywhere, any time of year. Where and when would this be?

Wall a town to keep out the wind?

Mad science/weather physicsfilter: I live in a small town in the Midwest right at the moment. It gets very, very cold, and most of the actual suffering part of the cold is due to high winter winds. Why can't towns like this just build city walls, ancient Athens-style, say 20 feet high or so (more?) to keep the wind out? There must be some obvious physics/ecology reason why this wouldn't work, someone explain it to me?
