My wife's laptop has several large (100MB through 10GB) pst files. We can move, rename and delete these files but we cannot copy them nor open them in Outlook. Msg says I need permission from domainX\userY. That's me. And I'm the owner. [more inside]
Unlike the Mac and mobile platforms, Windows 7 doesn't have a native Twitter app other than Tweetdeck. But it appears that it's no longer available and only a web-based version of Tweetdeck exists. Is that the case? What else is there?

I'm looking for a back-up program or script that can be run without needing admin rights (to install, even). I have taken the unofficial duty of backing up work files for my workgroup, and I'm looking for something smarter than copying everything once a month. More details inside. [more inside]

All of my laptops inevitably, inexorably slow down noticeably, way before they should. I know this happens with all computers. I am reasonably tech-savvy. But my current ThinkPad slowed down in the first three months. I want someone to take my laptop, figure out what's making it slow (software and/or hardware), and fix it all. I just want my computer to not be slow. Does such a person exist in SF? Who are they, where can I find them, and how much do they charge?

I have an interesting file syncing problem. As part of my responsibilities, I have to keep track of changes in the US export regulations. The Dept. of Commerce makes the regulations available in two formats, HTML and PDF. The HTML versions are oddly formatted so I prefer the PDF versions even if they are harder to search. They're available in PDF on this page. I have been regularly going out to the page and downloading relevant documents that have changed but I'd like to automate this if I can. But there are some gotchas. [more inside]

Hi, my computer isn't making any sounds at all. win7. The control panel shows the realtek ac97 sound card (or maybe it is a built in piece of the motherboard?) but won't make any noise.. the speakers work, have tested them in another machine.
The Windows laptop that I have been using for work has slowly been dying 1000 little deaths. They seemed to be all software related, So I decided to do a clean install. The install, from a USB, failed before it even got started. There was a missing DVD driver that could not be located anywhere. I canceled out of the install and try to boot up normally, But that won't work either. I have an error in my BCD file. [more inside]
I've installed Private Internet Access VPN software on a Win 7 machine and an XP machine on my home network. The VPN connected Windows 7 machine reports good speeds at www.speedtest.net and streams content like a champ. I've got a 3tb Seagate SATA drive, formatted NTFS, that I bought along with this Thermaltake SATA docking station. It's the kind where the naked drive just kinda chunks down vertically into the dock, which then connects to the PC via USB. Works great in the dock, but at a certain point, I thought I should just install the drive, not freak out about accidentally bumping it, and I'd get better throughput via sata cable to my mobo. Unfortunately, when I connect via sata, the disk shows up as uninitialized in Windows (Win7 x64) If I plug the drive back into the dock, it mounts just fine and there's all my files. I am very confused.

I have a Dell laptop with Windows 7 32-bit on it and I'm having the weirdest issue with it. The "Devices and Printers" control panel window hangs every time I open it. It gets to about 90% of the way, according to the progress bar, and then stops. I can manage my printers using the Admin tools but everything else is unreachable. Is there any way to fix this short of a Windows re-install? This is a work laptop and I'd rather not have to go through our IT service department since they'll nuke everything on it that wasn't there when I got it.

Win7/ Thinkpad X1 problem driving me crazy - at some random time in sleep mode, my Thinkpad will reboot and give a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message when it's back up. Google Chrome incognito mode help. I have Chrome set up to start in incognito mode. However, it frequently seems to revert to standard mode. I have ruled out interference from other users. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that it may be caused by spammy websites spawning new non-incogito windows. Is this likely to be the case, and if so, how do I stop it? I'm running Win7 home premium SP1.
My home-made HTPC running Windows 7 shuts down without warning, first after prolonged use playing HD (720) videos with VLC. Then it stopped twenty minutes into an episode, and switching to Media Player Classic seemed to be the answer. Then the computer shut down after about 20 minutes of simply being idle. And there's never a "sudden shutdown" error message when I reboot. How do I diagnose this, or what could be wrong? [more inside]

“one of the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it”
I'm getting the following message: “one of the USB device attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it” I post the message not because it is informative about the problem but because it's the recurring symptom. It occurs sometimes when I plug in a device, but even more often on devices that have been connected for some time. If I ignore it, the device might even start working again. (Most annoying are the message that tell me I have to reformat the device as I am afraid the cat will walk by and click on OK and wipe out my data.) The most "interesting" analysis online suggested that some kind of timeout for a device that hasn't been used in "a while" tells the system to "renew" which fails and results in the message. This may even be true, but who knows? [more inside]

When trying to read a Sandisk 16Gb Class 2 Micro SD card (on my Win7 PC through a USB reader) it will show up briefly but as soon as I try to copy any files the drive itself will disappear, meaning I can't save any of the data (or pics) from it, so I'm looking for a way to keep the drive visible to my PC so I can save the data. (The card comes from my Android HTC Desire HD which randomly dismounted itself this morning and now reports itself as 'damaged' in the phone). Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!
