Devices share bandwidth on a network. WiFi networks compete for bandwidth with each other. Is it better from a user/performance perspective to have multiple networks and spread the devices out among them, or a single network with all devices using it? [more inside]

I own an old Samsung Galaxy SII Android phone. I've recently cancelled its 3G plan, so now it accesses the Internet exclusively through Wifi. This has apparently caused its GPS function to stop working when it's out of range of a Wifi network, which I hadn't expected.
I'd like to resume using it as a mobile GPS device without re-purchasing a 3G plan. Do you know whether this can be done? [more inside]

I just moved into my first multistory home. Time Warner Cable installed their wifi modem on our second floor, and we have a very weak wifi signal in our (finished) basement. I'd like to know how to boost our wireless signal with minimal sacrifice of bandwidth/speed, and without having to have TWC come in again and move our modem to the first floor. Details within. I actually have a FreedomPop Wifi hotspot, but it doesn't work in some places that I'd like it to.. so recently, I've heard about Karma, which sounds very similar, but when I check the Karma wireless coverage maps it seems to cover the areas I need it to... but it looks like FreedomPop and Karma both use Sprint's network? However, Sprint has a few different networks, and I think its Clearwire might not be used by my FreedomPop device? Do I have this right? Anyone with better knowledge of Sprint's MVNOs?

This is a follow up to this question
. My cable provider allows me to use ethernet instead of coax. Wired works fine, but wireless bridge sort of works fine ... it'll play fine for long stretches then inexplicably freeze up. No other devices are on the wireless network. How can I troubleshoot this problem? I can certainly upgrade my router, which is 300mbps wireless-n, but I have a feeling that raw bandwidth isn't the issue. Any ideas? [more inside]

I've replaced an aging iMac with 3 external drives hanging off of it with a Macbook Pro with the same 3 external drives hanging off of it.
The setup also includes a cable modem and a Time Capsule.
Right now the drives are in daisychained Firewire mode.
I'm looking for a way to connect the drives to my wifi network so I can eliminate the need to plug the first drive into the laptop? Staying with Firewire would be nice, but it's not a deal breaker.

Can I use a third party wireless adapter for an XBOX360?
I've long been frustrated by not having wireless on my xbox. I almost never want to be online with the thing, but when I do, I'd rather not drag a cable through the house.
Now I've got a radio labs wireless adapter/antenna booster.
I was just looking at the official 360 adapter, and am struck that they're probably very similar.
Can I use my third part adapter, or is the 360 software so picky that it's not going to work? Thoughts? I'd rather not pay for this crap, Microsoft has enough of my filthy lucre already.

When I start a wifi session (at a coffee shop for instance), the bubble will say "additional login may be required" which, when I open a web page, is just an "I accept" disclaimer. BUT, when I have to turn off the computer (reboot for windows update, go to the bathroom, etc) and then try to re-establish contact, it won't work. I can't get connected and I can't get the login screen. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to work but it just seems like I have to come back the next day.
Any tricks to get me back on?
